There was a downloader virus on a gif image on Photobucket, and Norton said that it was blocked. Am I safe? I worry a lot about something happening to my computer. I worry about things in general as well. I also use Firefox 3.6 with adblock Plus and Noscript. I just really need to know if I have anything to worry about or not.
Hello LianHua
Welcome to the Norton Users Discussion Forum
Can you please give us some information about your computer? What Norton product are you using and what version is it? What operating system and what service pack are you using?
You can run an on demand scan with the free version of Malwarebytes to see if that finds anything that may have got past your Norton product. You can find Malwarebytes here.
Download the free version, install and update then run a FULL scan. After the scan completes you should post the logs back to this thread.
You can find Malwarebytes here
http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
It is a safer location to get the program from than malwarebytes themselves because some malware creators have large lists of sites that they block. Please be careful to down load the correct program ----the FREE version of MALWAREBYTES
(Thanks to Delph for providing the alternative site)
Please come back with the information and please run the full scan with the free version. Please do not download Spyware Doctor which will be seen on the same page. Thanks.
I am using Vista service pack 2 I am using Norton 360 version 3.8.0.41 Thank you. I’m not going to sleep until i know everything’s okay.

Hi LianHua
As Norton is telling you it blocked the .gif file from downl;oading then every thing should be OK. Run a full scan with Norton 360 and if that comes up clean you should be fine. If you want a second check on your system then you could run Malwarebytes as suggested by floplot.
Yeah, i did a full scan with Norton and everything showed up fine. I’m going to use Malwarebytes too just to make sure it’s okay. I’m usually very careful with my computer, but apparently you can get malware from just an an image, too.

HI LianHUa
Norton has done what is there to do which is to protect you from malware getting on to your system. Run the Malwarebytes scan as a second check but it seems as though you are OK.
Here’s the log. If I’m correct, it looks like everything is fine. Hi LianHua
That's a nice clean log from Malwarebytes - no issues. Your Norton scans came up clean also so I don't think you have anything to worry about.
