I am running Norton Internet Security on a Windows XP laptop and get the following message five times when I run a full system scan:
Downloader.misleadapp cannot be removed from an unsupported file
I also get the same message twice for anitvirus2009.
I have run through the steps outlined in the online virus removal page (disable windows restore, update virus definitions, run full scan in safe mode) but the messages persist. I did not try the registry edit step as it appears that the first few steps need to be accomplished first. Any suggestions on what to try next?
I have gone through the Norton online help and wasted several hours with the only suggestion being to pay them $99 for a "complete system diagnosis" and fix. This seems like a very steep fee to accomplish what their software is supposed to do on its own.
Thanks for any suggestion!
