My subscription to NIS renewed yesterday and went to download NIS 2012 to give it a try. For the life of me, can't recall how to download the app as an .exe file which then can be burned to CD in case of a need to reinstall. In my Norton account, it offers the download manager but don't want that: Prefer having the actuall executable installation file on hand for emergencies and/or quick reinstallations, particularly if my Internet connection is down.
Can I bookmark this particular link as a Symantec source for downloading any future NIS releases as .exe files for those of us with valid subscriptions instead of using the download manager? I do see in the URL that NIS12 is specifically mentioned.
If you download the NIS using Download manager, a folder with the name Norton Installation Files will be created in your desktop. Look into that and you will find the exe file for NIS along with symdef (the Norton definition updates)...:)
www.norton.com/nis12 always download the latest version of NIS 2012. It does not download when the next version comes out (for eg: 2013). To download the latest version of NIS, make a note of this link:

Those links to download the exe file -- which I like to use also -- do give you the current subversion / version but when you use the Download Manager you get the current version WITH updated definitions etc ....
And one more source to download from is your MyNortonAccount where there should now be a Download Button -- this one not only downloads the current version but it is also preactivated with your KEY ....... I've not used it but I imagine it uses the Download Manager route since that is Norton's preferred one for us.
Yes, the URL located at MyNortonAccount only offers the download manager when clicking the download button, at least as far as I can determine. While I realize downloading a file as compared to owning a physical disk has a number of advantages, there are most definitely times when having a backup .exe file of a program has saved my butt more than once throughout the years. The kicker is that I certainly have downloaded the NIS2011 .exe file within the last year as still have it on my system in a special folder called Reinstall Apps kept for just that purpose, but simply don't remember how it was obtained.
Just a thought: When a subscription is purchased/renewed, it would be nice if Symantec offered a link to both the download manager and one for those of us who prefer having the executable program file to keep on hand.
