Hi Sea_Monster,
Good search!
Thanks.
It says “Retail” though; take it will work on any N.I.S. 2009?
Floating Red,
I don't know.....that is why Symantec Support has to see if it will work. I have not try it and do not know if it works.
Anyway, hope the adminstrators will assist us on this.
Thank you
Floating Red,
Oh yes, I wanted to ask... why do Retail NIS2009 need to download the recovery tool when the retail version has a CD that comes with the purchase.
It just does not make sense!!

You should only need to do it if you Buy the Download from the symantec Online Store: http://www.symantecstore.com/dr/sat4/...CACHE_ID=207372

Floating Red,
The Recovery tool for NIS2009 is for folks let me who upgraded from NIS2008. I was not able to get the recovery tool therefore, I tried to search for one.
Just wanted Symantec to assist us that's all.
Thank you
I just tested this disk. It won't accept any of my NIS keys. I suppose that the site distinguishes between those of us who got out 2009 by upgrading on an existing subscription and those who bought 2009 outright.
I don't think that is fair; and I am hoping to be told that I am wrong.
I wonder what will happen to those who do the following.
1. download the NIS2009 upgrade using an existing NIS2008 subscription; then
2. buy an extension to that subscription.

That is not fair. :(
Also, step 3>number 3 in the instructions in that link may not work for some if their BIOS is not configured to ‘boot from CD’, this should be mentioned in the instructions.
Johna,
I've not yet seen a computer where you can't change your bios in about 1 minute to boot from the CD first (if a bootable CD is present), then the harddrive.
In fact, that is how must system recovery disks work. I bet that is how your computer already is set up. Pop in a Windows installation CD or any vintage if you have one and see what happens. Don't worry, it won't install anything without your permission.
Dear All
I wonder why Symantec has not response to this particular thread. You can see that perhaps they are sure that this download for Norton Recovery Disk is not suitable for upgrades & renewal of subscriptions. And they do not know how to response.
Can Symantec PLEASE Response.
Thank you

Hi mijcar
The point I was making was that some users may have to change the boot sequence in their BIOS in order for their PC to boot from the CD, and this should be included in the instructions.

Oops!! I guess you're right.
BTW, my recovery tool works!!!! I booted from the CD and enter the product key and Norton Recovery tool scan.
I guess I jumped in to quickly without trying out the CD.
Thank you
I have a question concerning the Recovery Tool.
My friend seems to have a DNS/DHCP settings-changing rootkit-hidden trojan. Will the Recovery Tool be effective if, hopefully, that particular trojan is included in the definitions?
