EAP build 22.21.1

I received a notification from Gayathri R about the availability of EAP build 22.21.1 via Live-Update. I currently have what I deem to be the most recent update (22.20.5.39) and I suspect that the reference to EAP may suggest that this particular build is still not widely available to the whole universe of Norton users.

But if my assumption is correct, wouldn't it be perhaps more "professional" and definitely less distracting to have this kind of communications sent only to the restrict number of users included under the EAP caption?

Thanks in advance for any further information.

Responding to bjm: Thanks for the link. It's basically what I suspected. Now, why these EAP versions are being sent to non-EAP users beats the heck out of me.

The EAP version is not being sent to anyone. It is just a product announcement that there is a new version available to test. If you have subscribed to the Product Announcements Blog, you will get email notifications of all blog entries.

Thanks for your sensible thoughts. I also share your concerns about the potential risks arising as unintended consequences of removing or changing things automatically. Unless there is some way of giving the user an opportunity to have the last word...

And yes, I tend to think that it may be something directed at some limited circle of people for purposes of testing it before it's made available to the users at large. But this only reinforces my assumption that it shouldn't be disseminated to everybody at this early stage.

P.S. - I inadvertently clicked on the button indicating the need for a solution, and when I became aware of my mistake I couldn't find a way to un-sellect it. So, my innocent mistake comes as your benefit: I'm giving you the award... smiley

EAP=Early Adapter Program.  I suspected it might be some sort of beta testing thing, but couldn't figure out what EAP would be an acronym for, so I Googled it.  I agree that if such a communication is sent to a broader audience, it would be helpful if the term were defined in the email.

Regarding Smartscan (the new service described in the email), the feature sounds potentially useful, but I'm a little concerned as to how aggressive it is (or isn't) in *automatically* removing or changing things Norton finds that it deems performance hampering.  For example, regarding what the writeup refers to as "junk internet files":  In some cases what one person defines as "junk" or "unwanted" may be useful to another (e.g., long-term browsing history) -- even if it *does* slow down performance a bit.
