This Loads Auto-Protect during system start-up.  You should have this setting turned on as, when the system starts up, some Viruses may be un-detectable, whereas they can only be Detected during system start-up.

So why is this turned off by default???

Hi all!  I turned "Early Load" from the settings on.  What are the implications (if any) to doing so, as I'd think you'd want this on?  Just for background, I'm running Windows Vista 64-bit.

Thanks in advance!

AutoProtect always loads at system start, the difference is how early.

If you enable early load, AP will start immediately after the filesystem drivers load, this allows AP to scan other drivers as they load.

The downside to early load is that it makes the boot slower because more files are scanned.

AP early load will automatically turn on after any threat is found that requires a reboot to remediate.

Once the machine again scans clean, the previous setting is restored.

So it would actually be no problem to keep it off?

It should not be a problem, but I would recommend for security purposes that you keep Early Load on.
