I have a friend in New Mexico that has a laptop that has been infected. About few days her computer willl send out emails with no subject line to the people in her address book. When looking at her sent email the only thing I see is a link to a web site. I recognized this as being wise to click on so I haven't. The link was lawit.com as I remember it. I deleted the email because I knew from her that it was infected.
Aboout a week and a half ago, I had her run Malwarebytes which came up with 56 problems and I had her just delete them. We also ran a deep system scan using Norton. It came up with nothing which I expected after running malwarebytes. Anyway, the problem seemed to stop for about a week and now it has started again.
The problem seems very similar to this post I saw here:
She has since run Cyberdefender and found 56 issues and corrected. I do not know what the issues were. In her last email to me several days ago she said: The Cyberdefender program found 56 problems....and i went ahead and decided to purchase the 1 year @ $29.99 to clean it and then I got a technician on the phone. We talked and I had her take over my laptop to view the issue and she found that even though the "mywebsearch" was showing up again... she was able to determine that it was attached to my start up and would not be able to be cleaned by the software that I was purchasing. She said we could clean off some of it, but the original problem would not be done away with.
I do not think the issue is "mywebsearch", however, I could be most likely wrong. I think it is a worm.
She says she also has a desktop which was doing the same thing but came to a grinding halt over time and she hasn't been able to get back on it.
Any ideas would be really appreciated.
