Emails wont send

I can recieve Emails but cant send … whats the fix? (Microsoft Outlook 2003 and Norton 360 v3)

Hi xhippy

Check your email settings in both Outlook and Norton's 3.60. What o/s and service pack are you using? Is your computer clean?

Any error messages when you send email?

Did you try disabling the email scanning or firewall?

xhippy

I'm just setting up Outlook 2007,  using Win 7 Prof. plus N360 vers. 4

Am also unable to send mails, but can receive.

I was thinking I had set it up wrong, but reading your mail, I wonder.

What OS are you using ?

I will now go through the settings and check everything mentioned in the replies to your post.

If I find the answer, I'll post it here.

EDIT.  Sorry, meant NIS2010

Hi xhippy,

Try a simple increase of the server timeout setting.

To do this, go to the e-mail-account you´re using and more settings - advance settings.

The server timeout setting I`m using is 6 minutes.

My ISP gave me this advise, when I had the same issue not being being able to send e-mails.

You can do the tests by 1st sending to your own account verifying this function.

The reason for this need to increase the server timeout, is that the logic in opening the firewall-

port used for delivering e-mails can sometimes need extra time.

Why?

I don´t know and am only intrested in getting my e-mails delivered, like you probably.

Hi xhippy  Kurt

I know I'm using NIS 2010,(which was corrected by an Edit in my last post), but seem to have solved my problem.

Did look at timeout setting as mentioned by Kurt, but there was already a tick in the box ' Protect against Timeouts

As I was using a Live .com mail account, I had entered Live.com as the SMTP outgoing server.

Upon changing the outgoing server SMTP to my  ISP's   smtp configuration, my mails now send ok.

As you said Kurt, it doesn't matter how, as long as they go..

If you haven't done this xhippy, it may be worth  working on the SMTP configuration.
