End of the line - removing NOF

I have had NOF installed on 4 computers and 3 Android devices. I have only been using it for about a month or so, but this last several days of service outage I have come to realize what a mistake it was to switch away from Microsoft Family Safety. Family Safety may not be as feature-rich, but at least it works!

I have removed NOF from two of our computers. I've tried to install the new version, repeatedly, but I keep getting stuck after entering my credentials. I have removed the devices from the web site (after finally being let in) but I still cannot re-add those computers to the account.

If this doesn't start working TONIGHT, I will wipe NOF from every single device we have, as well as Norton Internet Security from 6 computers and 3 Android devices. Then I will demand a refund from Symantec.

I have never seen such a botched rollout in my many, many years in the IT field. You claim you're working night and day to resolve this. That just proves further the total incompetence of the team in charge if this cluster-frak.

hi texvik,

i'm the product manager for norton family and saw your post. i can appreciate your frustration with us and on behalf of the team, i sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

what you're experiencing is tied to connectivity issues that arose after the release. we're working as quicky as possible to address them. unfortunately, i cannot provide a firm ETA on when it'll be fully resolved. once we have an ETA, we will communicate it out trhough this forum.

I have had Norton Internet Security installed on 3 computers for around 5 years now when Symentec sorted it out to make it slim and mean and reliable after the bloatware they used to produce. It has run excellently always in that time with fast installs each year when I upgraded to the next version

I have also been running Norton Online Family since it came out with great satisfaction.

However this year after installing NIS 2013 version I have had a bunch of issues most with Norton Online family. (NOF)

It will not recognise my login or password to enable removing of the previous version of NOF inspite of being logged in succesfully to NIS and the previous version of NOF recognising me.  I have even reset the Password successfully but still no luck.

NOF where I succeeded in removing the old version of NOF on one PC, then after installing the new version wanted me to Login/password the Computer I was on, but when I tried to do this said "There is already a Computer by this name in the NOF system". Of course there is, that is the computer I am trying to install an upgraded version to !!!!!

I have tried removing the Computer name and reinstalling NOF and entering the Computer name again, but now it wants to remove a "successfully" installed NOF and presents a different logon screen which refuses to recognise my normal logon and password.

I would like to uninstall NOF completely from each machine and hopefully reinstall it once you fix all the bugs. How can I do this without being asked for a Login and Password each time but it does not recognise?

If I cannot do this I will uninstall all the Norton software and install the Microsoft versions.

Frustrated.

PS Running Vista 64 Home Premium Service Pack 2 on HP Touchsmart

I too have the same problem and I too am losing patience.

What is the problem with the authentication?  This is fairly fundamental to the operation of Norton Family and as such cannot be allowed to fail as no authentication cripples our PCs af which there are seven in our houshold, all using Symantec Norton products.

I understand that Norton Family is free however it is described in much of your literature as the product we should use to manage access to conent from the internet.

This is not the first issue to have occurred recently and as an IT professional myself I can imagine the hard work and stress being suffered at your end.  However, this isn't really good enough is it?

Btw, I am a premium (paid) member of NOF. That's my biggest regret.

I finally had it with Norton Online Family and Norton's slow response to fix, I was able to finally uninstall the program by doing the following and regained full internet connectivity on my  (Sony Laptop Windows 7 Home Premium): :

1)  Shut off internet to your affected machine.

2)  Restart computer, before windows logo comes up press hold F8, windows will ask to boot into Safe Mode.  I went into Safe Mode without networking.

3)  Safe mode windows comes up, goto control panel.

4)  Select Programs and Featuires.  A lis of programs will come up, select Norton Family.

5)  Window Box comes up confirming Uninstall, click yes.....voila...it removes the program.

6)  Windows box comes up and says you must reboot.  Reboot as normal.  Turn internet back on.

Full internet connectivity is back.  Good riddance Norton Online Family you just lost a customer
