Error 3048,3

I got this error a couple of times. I may have followed the instructions incorrectly since I clicked on Run rather than Save. Please help me with a couple of questions:

I have Norton 360 Premier V6 running on Windows 7 64 bit. I clicked on the first option of the two 64 bit links. Is that correct?

Does it make a difference that I used Run instead of Save? When I click Save I do not see anything about the Desktop, the Save options are "Save, Save As or Run & Save" which one should I use?

What do I do after I Save it?

Thank you,

Ana

I frequently get this error message and I don´t really know why. Every time I restart the computer but it does not seem to work. Yesterday I tried the Remove and install procedure, the installation went well but now I get the error message again.

I have Window VIsta Home premium operating system with servicepack 2. Most of the time I use Safari for windows but I also use Explorer 8 and Mozilla firefox.

Could someone explain what´s wrong and how I can solve this or do I have to by another software security program?

Hi topazan,

Similar problem in the past that was corrected by the solution listed in the following link:

http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Error-3048-3/m-p/683473/highlight/true#M198797

Please pay attention to the Go There Now link in that solution.

Also please double check and ensure you do not have any other PC Tuneup/security programs installed that may be conflicting.

See GordonBucha's posts following the solution link above.

As I said, I succeeded to run the Removal & installation tool. I did not get any error messages while I was running the tool. It removed and installed Norton 360 with success. (I did that yesterday and then I got a new error 3048 error message today).

So the link you suggested is NOT a link to a fix because it takes you to information about what if the removal and installation fails or if you get an error message while running it. Non of that is applicible in my case.

The link I suggested I feel is a solution - if you read the original post they have a very similar situation as you do and running the Norton Removal Tool did fix it for them.

They stated:

I have NIS 2012 installed and running a few months now. Suddenly today I got Error 3048, 3 while browsing the web. I restarted, but no luck. Then I tried the Norton Remove & Reinstall tool, but the same error occurs.

Can anybody help please?

If you insist that your do not need to run the Norton Removal Tool and that it doesn't apply to you - then fine.  I hope you get it sorted.

I don´t get it. Do you mean that the Removal tool is different from the Removal and Installation tool?

Absolutely.  The Remove and reinstall tool does not remove all the digital debris (possible corruption) left behind by a standard Contol Panel uninstall.  It is similar to the "Fix It" from Microsoft where Norton has automated the Control Panel uninstall and the reinstall of the latest version of the similar Norton product.

The Norton Removal Tool is used to remove a failed installation or a damaged Norton product.  Thus it basically provides a "clean install" environment.  Also if you use ID Safe, please backup(export) your ID Safe Data prior to running the Norton Removal Tool.

Now I have used the removal tool and downloaded and installed Norton 360 again. It seemed to work for a couple of days, free from error messages. But today it popped up again. I started the computer in the morning and had not started to use it and there it was again - the error message screen.

What now?

I have gotten this error twice. Once I rebooted and didn’t see it again for a week or so. Yesterday I got it and didn’t do anything except close the warning box. Norton seemed to be functioning fine. What does this error indicate is wrong? Is Norton still functional? I would like to know. I hope the answer isn’t the standard, “something is corrupt, you must reinstall”. I hope someone knows what really is wrong.

Please try the solution from Symantec KB article:

Today when I started my computer, the Norton tray icon is missing. I guess I will have to remove it and start over again. thanx. The NPE found no risks.

NPE.exe "Solution" DOES NOT WORK

Having a Norton tech take over your PC for a half hour DOES NOT WORK

Running a full system scan & fix DOES NOT WORK

Removing the software and doing a re-install DOES NOT WORK

I get the error message from once every 3 or 4 days to multiple times an hour.

How about a NEW idea from someone at Symantec?

Hi dresdenron,

I have tried to print the page of instructions for the NPE via the Print Icon on the Commnd Bar, via File > Print on the IE 9 Menu Bar and also via right click on the document and select print and none of those options caused ant freeze ups.

Please try the options other than the icon you used and see if you get the same results.  It sounds to me like it could be a printer/system setting, especially if the other options work.

Error 3048,3 normally resutls when having problems with updates - so I do not believe that has anything to do with your printer situation.  You were directed to the NPE because certain malware/virus can cause Norton not to download updates.

Please keep us posted.

Have had NIS 2012 installed for a few months. Got error 3048,3 for the first time today. Norton Autofix came up and said it was successful (I assume at fixing the problem). But it also directs you to a web support page for the error which shows instructions on downloading  and using Power Eraser to also fix the problem. When i click on the print icon to print the instructions from this page, it locks everything up.

Is this really Norton doing this or is it something bogus. Do I need to do anything more since Autofix said it was successful?

Thanks

I also wouldn't know how to work with Identity Safe.  Of course I can uninstall and reinstall programs, but it seems more of a headache than just quickly downloading AVG.   I never did get Error Messages with free security programs.  That's more suitable for ordinary seniors.  Maybe Symantec needs 2 levels - one for techy types and one for AVG types.

This error message just flashed on my computer.  Heaven knows what is wrong.  When I followed the directions, they were too complicated for me to use.  I have no aspirations to being a computer tech.   i guess Symanatec is just too big a mouthful and I should now take it off and get a free anti-virus.  When they don't work, we can just get another free one.  Symanted expects us to be techs and of course most of us are not.

Have you fully removed AVG or any other free security program using that program's removal utility? Remnants from an old install can create conflicts with Norton.

Before you start reinstalling, if this is the only time you have seen this error, I would not worry. If you keep getting this error after rebooting your computer, you can look at the reinstall route.

Welcome to the club.  Frankly my feeling is this is a program bug in Norton's software.  Not sure what we can do.

Hello,

For the last couple of weeks, I have been getting notification about Error 3048,3 every couple of days right after I do the first manual LiveUpdate of the day (other subsequent LiveUpdates are fine).  Autofix then fixes an "installation" problem each time.  The problem goes away for a couple of days then reappears again.   Does anybody know why this happens?

I am running Win 7 with NIS 20.3.0.36

If I were to reinstall NIS, how do I get a clean copy without burning up another subscription?

Thanks.

That error popped up for me a few minutes ago; but that was the first time on this system. I did have a similar error a few months ago on one of my other systems; but according to the report the fix was successful in both cases. I've been using Norton Internet Security ever since it was first offered on the market, but NIS 2013 is the first version that I've experienced anomalies with and it seems a little quirky to me!!!!

NIS 2013 seems to be having a number of unsolved problems with IE10 on Windows 7 systems!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
