Error 5013,3 - "Subash" solution doesn't help

I operate a Win 7 with the Norton 360 Version 5.1.0.29 with same scenario as all you posting.  Matter appears settled with the "Subash - Swami Vivekananda" solution.  Forum's help appears to end here.  HOWEVER:  My computer usage revolves around surfing the web and games.  I can't even begin to understand how to use his solution's instructions. What I need is something basic and simple to follow.  I hope there are others like me.

As regards the Norton advice, the Base Filtering Engine is not to be found.  Wiki Errors provides a very simplistic, automatic solution for people like me which can be used with Win 7.  It had about 4 easy steps to follow.  The middle part stopped me with "Rendered is not compatible with Windows 7."  Wiki strongly advises that a "manual fix of 5013 error is only recommended for advanced computer users."

Where does all of this leave me?  Why doesn't  "You Tube" get together, easy to understand, instructional videos with solutions directed to users like me?

Any suggestions?  Thanks for any assistance given.

Hi David,

We'll be more than glad to help you out if you'll just let us know which part of Subash's nstructions you are having problems with, and which parts you understand.

I may be mistaken, but I believe that "auto-fix" you are referring to will cost you $29.95 for a one year license.  If it's similar to most, it will do the scan, may even tell you what is wrong and then ask for the cash in order to complete the fix.

David

Can you post a link to the Subash solution you are referring to so that we can pick up the thread of what it's all about.

Every message has a message number when you read it and

Message 2 of 5 (89 Views)

is one one message from Subash dealing with that error. Click on the 2 and see if that is what you are referring to.

Your kindness in responding to me is appreciated.  This is not meant to be sarcastic, but it's practically all of the instructions provided.  They're all over my head.  And, what blew my mind is where "Subhash" himself said the the very slightest deviation from instructions would result in computer freeze or crash (can't recall his exact words).  Your advice to me may be perfect, but I don't have the computer knowledge to prevent trouble.

I'm stuck.  If the error 5013,3 wasn't fixed, what would this mean?  Trouble ahead?  If yes, I'm disappointed that Norton can't help me at my level.  I'd hate to leave this company after all the many years of use.  It becomes to me not user friendly.  This is the first time that Norton left me down.  I sure a lot of others are "in the same boat."  Why isn't a Youtube video with simplified, step by step, instructions set up?

Again, thanks for trying.

David

Thanks for responding.

Number "2" is correct.  Not to be sarcastic, but just about every line of the instructions is way over my head.  Even "Subhash" states that even the slightest deviation will cause a computer freeze or crash (can't recall his exact words).  Your advice to be may be perfect, but my lack of computer knowledge would lead to his warning coming true.

I've used Norton for years and never encountered a problem that they couldn't repair in a user friendly manner.  If I choose to not fix this error, what implications are there?  I'd hate to have to leave Norton.  Why doesn't someone present simplified, step by step instructions on Youtube? There are many others, I'm sure, in the same boat.

Again, thanks for trying.

Hi

Please contact our support y clicking here, as suggested by Tim in your other post ( http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-360/Profound-Disappointment-With-Norton/m-p/638931#M64578 )

I posted before (1/18/12 - 1:59pm) asking for assistance to repair Norton 360 Version 5.1.0.29, Error: "5013,3 on my Win7.  Numerous others did the same.  Norton provided us with instructions to correct this, but they didn't work.  All those reading this know to what I'm referring.  There came along what I call the "Subhash solution" for a manual fix. This was something I can't even begin to understand.  Wiki states that a "manual fix of 5013 error is ONLY recommended for Advanced computer users."  Subhash, himself, warns that even the slightist deviation from his instructions will result in a computer crash or freeze (I can't recall his exact words).

I had two responses offering to try and work with me.  Considering the warning above, it's too risky a move.

We have five computers in our household and I only purchase reputable, user friendly programs. I've used Norton products for many years and never had a problem which couldn't be solved in a user friendly manner.  Until now.

I'm profoundly disappointed that Norton can't assit me now with this error.  I've 58 days remaining in my present renewal contract.  This scenario makes me think about leaving Norton.  If I find out that error 5031,3 left not repaired will cause trouble, I'll remove the product ASAP.  I don't want to, but an inadequate response to this error leaves me no choice.

Hello ceachell,

There have been a couple responses to your post that are waiting a reply from you:

Before my message to you, I did carefully review the two replies.  Responded to both just a few minutes ago.  My comments in message to you is found well illustrated by their advice to me.

What are the implications if I can't fix error 5013,3?  Trouble ahead?

Why doesn't someone post simplified, step by step, instructions on Youtube for fixing the problem.  I'm sure you're aware of the many others in the same boat.

Your kindness and assistance are very much appreciated.

David

David,

What is the advantage of posting on youtube over posting the instructions on the Symantec site?

Thanks

Dick

If the Symantec solution instructions and the "Subhash" solution are the same, then I guess we'll still end up with instructions too complicated and technical for my understanding.  It must be nearly impossibe for you and others with a high level of computer expertise to work with people like me.  This "solution" is so easy for you to apply; like adding 1 plus 2.  You, and the others offering help, are on a level so far above that of a "web surfer/game player," you can't begin to comprehend how someone like me can be so dumb.  I believe there are many others like me.

Question:  If i don't fix Error 5013,3 on my Win7, what happens regarding computer operation?  Are there problems ahead?  This will help me decide what to do with the Norton 360 on household's five computers.

Thanks for bearing with me.

David

I'm with you on the computer knowledge!  Most of the time I don't have a clue what to do?, good or bad?, will I have more of a problem or not?.  Need someone who talks out language!!:smileyfrustrated:

I am surprised that in installing this product you practically need to be a computer technician.

I have now loaded the new Norton 360 version 5 on our two computers and each time have had to research how to overcome problems!

It is very disappointing that this product has so many glitches.

Next year I will be researching a less problematic product...

"Subhash solution" is way over my head from technical standpoint, and believe that of many others.  Subhash himself states that even if the slightest deviation occurs from instructions, this leads to computer freeze or crash (can't recall his exact words).  Even if an expert attempted a manual fix with me, my own lack of expertise would lead to this failure.

What are the implications if error 5013,3 is not fixed?  What harm to computer?  I have Norton 360 Version 5.1.0.29 on Win7.

Hi,

Have you looked at the instructions posted here: https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?docid=v61294291_enduserprofile_en_us&lg=english&ct=united+states&product=home&version=1&pvid=f-home&layout=retail&actstat=activated&substatus=current&ncoap=1&partner=&ispid=&sitename=&ncoap=1 ?

You can print them out and go step by step. They were updated yesterday [1/20/2012] so I'm assuming that they are the best available.

Let us know how it goes. We'll be here with the light on :smileywink:

That article does not include instructions on re-installing the Base Filtering Engine, if it is missing.

That's a serious omission

There are many who can't fix error 5013,3 on Norton 360 because of not having enough computer expertise to follow the highly technical "Subhash" solution.  Why doesn't someone post simplified, step by step instructions, on Youtube?

Hi,

Have you looked at these instructions?

https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?docid=v61294291_enduserprofile_en_us&lg=english&ct=united+states&product=home&version=1&pvid=f-home&layout=retail&actstat=activated&substatus=current&ncoap=1&partner=&ispid=&sitename=&ncoap=1

They were updated on 1/20/2012 so they are current. Let us know where you feel they need to be simplified.

Thanks

I am still trying to fix machine. Was able to put the Base Filter  back in computer but when I try to start it, I get error msg 5, Access is Denied. Any ideas?
