I am also have a problems with this error msg. It tell me to run Power Eraser which I do but on the the last restart I get a "Product Service Dependency Fail". I have gone through the steps to turn off Norton Product Tampering Protection and the Base Filtering Engine Service but like another user, when I get to the Service Window there is no "Base Filtering Engine" option in the service list.
FYI: My Norton version is 19.2.0.10. I am running Windows 7.
You are gettting this error because the Base FIltering Engine is missing altogether. Please follow the links provided by yank in the following post in order to restore the BFE and get everything working again:
Using NIS 2012 on Win7 Ultimate, I recently started to get this error. Read others' posts for solution. Had no Base Filtering Engine file under "Services" and the BFE file also was not in the registry. Googled BFE missing and got following link where can download the BFE.reg file and repair it., Choose correct .reg file for Win7 or Vista.
After download, follow instructions in above link to run it (adds or repairs the BFE file in registry) and how to change "permissions" to add "everyone". Rebooted after did this and now the Base Filtering Engine is under "Services" & auto set to "automatic". No longer getting this annoying message when open Norton Internet Security.
Hope this helps others having problems with this error & correcting it.
On the Popup you get at the bottom of the page, left click on the down arrow and left click on Save As. On the next page left click on Desktop and then SAVE. This should place the Base Filtering Engine.reg shortcut on your desktop. Double click it.
