Error 8504,100

Hello, I'm new and not very technically minded.  I am running Norton 2012 on my laptop and while doing my security scan I got the error message that I've used as the subject line.  I don't know what it is and the help page suggests that it's usually caused by my having uninstalled something called Norton Utilities 15.0, which I don't think I have, far less have uninstalled.  So I don't know which buttons to press to make the error go away.

Can anyone help, please?

Hi Atomic and thank you for your reply.

I actually already knew what to do about the error. My question was to Symantec - I said I discovered this bug has existed for years and I want to know what causes it and what Symantec is *doing* about it. It doesn't seem right to me that they'd let a long-standing bug continue to aggravate users and cost them hours of their time messing around with uninstalls and reinstalls of Norton products.

Regarding SP3 - I decided a long time ago not to do that one - I forget what the reason was, but I do know it is one that I would stick with if I could remember it <gg>. I have Win 7 on my other laptop and no Norton AV error, btw.

Thank you again.

Hi

Thank you for replying.  I had Kaspersky, which I uninstalled completely.  My OS is Windows XP.

Hi

   Did you used the Kaspersky Removal tool or uninstalled through Norton Installation? check your Private message.

   Run NRT-> Restart -> Open run ( win key + r ) -> cmd -> type chkdsk c: /r /f  -> type y -> restart.
