I just installed Norton AV 2012 after renewing my subscription. Computer uses Windows XP SP2.
I have been getting Error 8504, 100.
After rebooting it may be gone, not sure yet. At any rate, I went out to the web on Google looking for information on this error that might be posted on sites other than Symantec, just to see what I could find.
First, though, before searching on the web, I did read Symantec''s instructions which call for removing all Norton programs and reinstalling everything if rebooting doesn't help.
What I found out on the web is that this issue has existed for years, and that was with only a quick read of a page of the google search. Which leads me to my question.
This is a troublesome issue that costs Norton users considerable time and effort when rebooting doesn't work. You have to find your discs for your uninstalled programs and take the time to reinstall, etc. all of which could add up to several hours or an evening of someone's time.
What I want to know is, if this has existed for years, why does it continue to exist and what has Symantec done to solve this problem and get rid of it so that users for years in the future won't have to deal with it? This seems to me to be a big bad bug that Symantec has not adequately addressed.
If there are Symantec staffers who read this forum, I would like an answer, and so would many many other Norton users.
Thank you very much.
