Error 8504, 104 - Will Not Initialize

 

I had 2010 version and was upgrading to 2011.

 

by running the start.exe from the disk    i got this error.  

 

Error 8504, 104 - Will Not Initialize

 

the solution was easy after i knew it.  no uninstall or reinstall.   no time at all. 

 

 just click the renew button in the 2010 software  put the key from the new disk in to my current version. 

 

in seconds i was updated.

What security program did you have installed previously and how was it removed? An improperly removal of a previous security program can interfere with the Norton install.

I purchased (download verion of) Norton Internet Security 2011 from www.amazon.com  When I went to download, it just sits there like it's trying to initilize, but it never does.  When I exit it/shut it down, it starts a trouble-shooting program.  To me, it just simply says to reboot - since I'm using XP....this still did not help!

 

Any ideas?

I am assuming you got a new key with your purchased NIS 2011 from Amazon?

 

I would recommend that you uninstall NIS 2010 using the control panel method and then reboot.

 

Then try installing it again.
