Did anyone get any update from Symantec? It looks like the latest update from Symantec is the problem. It is for Windows 8.
I am running unprotected and would like this fixed.

kaytesp wrote:I'm having the same problems reported in this thread. A couple of observations....
I thought the 19.8.0.14 upgrade required the user to run Live Update manually...... I did not... and based on the history I think it got delivered automatically and possibly in two seperate LU executions. I was never prompted to reboot (although I have for other reasons.... I didn't even realize anything changed until I couldnt open the ui )
My update came down via automatic LiveUpdate. I booted up knowing nothing about the update, but by force of habit I always run a liveupdate after the system is booted up and ready to rock and roll. I got he restart request and noticed the Engine update in the sumary. I rebooted and ran LU again and the other part of the update came in. I have seen updates in the past that come thru automatically that required reboots, but I did not even know about them as I turn my system off every night and also reboot for other functions (other programs updates) at various times.
Since the upgrade, I also see significantly more "Norton Error Submissions"... within each report, it states that the product version is 19.7.1.5 yet Support>About shows 19.8.0.14. Hmmmm.
I just checked my history and the Norton Error Submissions I have listed all occured in July/ early August (prior to release of 19.8.0.14.
Just sharing.
FWIW, Open Windows Explorer, and go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton Internet Security\Engine.
As I understand it, while you are between engine updates (have not rebooted or received and installed the second part yet) there will be two Engine Folders listed (one for 19.7.1.5 and one for 19.8.0.14) Once you reboot and the other part of the update is installed - the 19.7.1.5 folder should disappear and show only the new 19.8.0.14. Perhaps a check of that location for only one Folder - the most recent will let you know that you got both parts of the update.
6 Hrs with support yesterday and still not working yet. They keep looking for os problems and I know know that it is the latest update.
Has anyone had any luck.
Running unprotected
Same problems as others have reported. No solutions found yet.
Hi
I have the same problem, 4 hours with the tec on line yesterday, three hours today still the same.
I am having the same problem and have tried the "fix" that is recommended. Uninstall and reinstall several times each time I reinstall I get the error again and cannot get connectivity to the internet. I had to remove Norton all together and download a "free" antivirus to run with some protection on my laptop. Running Windows Vista on my Laptop good thing that I have another computer. This is an unacceptable product failure. NEED A FIX ASAP!
Has everyone noticed the lack of Symentec on this tread? !!!!!
I also am having the same problem with my laptop using Windows Vista and tried manually removing and reinstalling Nortons. And now I can't connect online with that computer...even though my connectivity SAYS that I am connected. I am at a loss and not happy because as the others have said nobody seems to be monitoring this or trying to find a reason.
The other 2 computers seem to be working fine (so far), this one is running XP and the other is Windows 7. I am currently using FF for browser here (although I have FF and IE on the laptop in question).
*Makes me wonder how many people are having this issue that only HAVE ONE COMPUTER and NOW can't get online to find out anything or get a fix (if there is one!)*
SURE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE IS A FIX FOR THIS.
I have had the same Error and I have Uninstalled-Reinstalled NAV 2012 several times on my own and during multiple Chat Support Sessions. During one Session I got the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) and my computer shut down. (Uninstall-Reinstall does not seem to be a fix, but that is all they want to do.) There after my computer would loop through 1) Reboot, 2) 1 minute of operation, 3) Crash with BSOD showing about 2 sec each time. (Return to 1).
Fortunately, I had made a Dish Image a couple days before and was able to recover in just a short 6 hours of work.
On my next Support Session, the guy could not remotely operated my computer at all. He said Error 8506, 422 was caused when the Symantec Server could not recognize the Product Version of Key.
Now I have been waiting over 1 hour for my 3rd Chat Support Session.
Seriously hope that symantec will solve this issue asap.
On another thread, they claimed using Win 7 Uninstall and Reinstalling from Disk helped. WRONG.
This solution got me a BlueScreenOfDeath.
Nothing has been solved.
If you cannot load NAV from the CD and hav it run, then NAV is a virus.
Lots of people are still complaining about the Error 8605,422 problem and no solutions are coming.
Last night I wasted for an hour on the Chat Support line, but no one ever came on-line.
In the last week, the Norton-Symantec CEO has been fired and their cloud computing services went in the ditch.
Is the company still alive?
I am going to the store now to buy another brand AntiVirus. Someone should sue Symantic.
Has anyone gotten a fix on this yet ???
My fix was to do a system restore, removed all Norton products, reloaded 10 Microsoft updates, loaded a free firewall/antivirus. I had blue screens and all the other problems. System now running great (faster). I hope to load Norton's when I see a fix for this.
By system restore I mean to use system tools to back off the updates, only takes a few minutes if it works.
for any one needing a fix for this I had my computer fixed by a live support session with norton you may refferance my case so they can look what was done to resolve this error code

hope this helps

Hi everyone, I'm very sorry for not getting back to you on this thread sooner. Our team is analyzing a lot of data from customers on this issue, and are working to resolve it as quickly as possible. Thanks for your patience while we work on this problem.
Thats good to hear but I beleave Symantec will be geting some bad press over this. I know that after spending 10hrs with support last week and they were going to call back today (but did not), That I am thinking of using some other form of protection , other then Norton.
Thanks
Paul
I have made the following observation that could be related to the 8506,422 problem.
I have already installed a different Anti-Virus and do not have the interest in verifying.
Today I noticed that I had 2X copies of Adobe Reader 9.5.2 that were installed (updated) the same day the 8506,422 problem showed up on my computer (Win 7, 32 bit).
After I deleted the Adobe Reader 9.5.2 copies and did a fresh install, I got Adobe Reader 10.
I know this may be a long shot, but you may want to check and see if it has an effect.
Good Luck.

Of course I never installed 2 copies, nor do I know how that even happened. My wife who is still running NAV 2012 without problem never upgraded from Adobe Reader 9.5.1.

Same problem for me, although I am running NAV 2011.
