Error: "8506,422" appears on my Norton 2012 product

Anybody heard of a fix yet? I've just re-installed NIS 2012 for the nth time, from the CD this time,  and still get the 8056,422 error, no visible product and no internet / network connection (although I can ping my ISP's mail server)

Well you're doing better than I am!  I haven't been able to uninstall Nortons after the first time.  Still without internet connection on that laptop and about ready to dump the whole thing and reinstall Vista and start from scratch.  If I do I won't be adding Nortons.  I can't believe nobody is helping us!

Well, I don't know whether this can be replicated elsewhere, but I just rebooted for the 3rd or 4th time since returning yesterday friom holiday and experiencing this selfsame issue (and incidentally after just PM-ing Tony Weiss to prompt for further a progress report). This time the Norton Autofix seems to have worked (ie just start computer, wait for Norton to say it's trying to repair a problem and asks you to reboot again to see if it's fixed - it wasn't when I tried this before)!

This was certainly a nice surprise and I hope it's permanent - if so, then it seems PM-ing Tony can sometimes fix a problem even when he's not online!

Have now live updated and hope this keeps working - good luck  to all! (I'll report back if any more problems).

(PS  - Running Win XP Home SP3 and I did not attempt to reinstall from CD or run any of the support site tools - just tried Autofix two or three times - 3rd time lucky I guess!)

Sorry all

I have gone to someelse for protection 4 weeks and 10 hr without protection is just to long.

Good luck

anybody got their problem resolved? I tried to re-install norton again but hit this problem again...It's been a long time....

@ pusztas  - Have you tried running Autofix again? Worked last time for me (even though it didn't previously) - see above. Not sure how or if Autofix methods get updated?

whenever after i install norton my internet connection is partially blocked, i.e. i can ping the address but IE/Mozilla cannot access internet....therefore the autofix can't do anything

Hmm..... tricky! Well in my case I use google chrome and did not obviously lose internet so not entirely sure whether I had that problem. However, I noticed that after attempting to start NIS (as part of normal boot up) although nothing happened at first (and no Norton visible), after a few minutes a Norton screen popped up and started trying to fix itself without me specifically trying to use a browser. Don't know whether same will happen, but possibly worth leaving machine on for a little while to see if anything happens?

Best of luck!

i already tried leaving it for a while. the autofix did appear. that's when the error 8506,422 appear. then it says that the virus definition could not be updated, the live update failed, and it couldn't fix the problem.

Sorry it was no good!

I presume you have already tried "repairing" the internet connection (eg right click on connection icon in system tray or network connections). Apologies if too obvious to suggest, just thinking what I might try.

yup i tried that...actually i am connected to the internet b'cos i could ping www.google.com/www.yahoo.com successfully in the comand prompt....just that i can't actually access the internet.....cos the NIS blocked the connection somehow

OK afraid really can't help more, but I think some potentially useful results might be got searching for "can't connect can ping" etc  eg http://forums.techguy.org/web-email/932723-solved-browsers-dont-connect-but.html or http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/netsh.mspx?mfr=true ?

I'm sorry I do not have the necessary experience. Hope someone else comes along soon!

So- heres the deal. This bloated pig gives me a error message of BIBLICAL proportions. I cant sign into MSN, NAV craps everywhere- I am asked to uninstall -install- turn and click my ruby reds 3 times? Does anyone on the short bus know how to fix this?

For those of you STILL hanging in there...I finally PAID my computer guy (via phone, he walked me through this) to get my computer back on track .  This will only work if you can get to another computer and use a flash drive to download the FIX (different from what was originally suggested at the time of the Error).

So go HERE and download for your version:

https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?docid=kb20080710133834EN_EndUserProfile_en_us&product=home&pvid=f-home&version=1&lg=en&ct=us

THEN run it on the affected computer.   It SHOULD remove EVERYTHING related to Nortons and get your computer back to being able to connect to the internet.   THEN...go here and download your version of software that you actually have (I was told this would be the newest software):

http://download.cnet.com/Norton-Internet-Security-2012/3000-18510_4-10592551.html

Once you do that it should get you protected and THEN ask you for your email username and password.  Once you do THAT you will be back up and running and protected.

GOOD LUCK to everyone!!

Has this problem been fixed yet? or has anyone who had this issue aswell been resolved? Or can someone give me an update on this issue being fixed? its been 4 weeks and still have this issue. :smileysad:

Why has evertything gone dead on this subject? Has there been a fix anywhere? Unfortunately Catnutti's suggested solution leads nowhere - all I get is a BSOD when I try to run the installed NIS product.

And what's happened to Tony Weiss since his post on August 21st?

Can anybody help, please?

just a note. I just installed NIS2012 for the first time on 9/13/12. I have had several entries in the Norton Error reporting log. But I have not RECEIVED an error message other than one when I completed installation and then needed to connect to the internet for activation and I had not yet reconnected my computer to the internet.
But that is the only error message I received

It is pitifull that Norton cannot resolve this matter after many weeks.

I have tried installing Internet Security 2012 with current valid product key which was successfull, but when carried out a cold boot, error messages appeared, replacing version with 2013 which ultimately did not load.

I purchased yet another copy CD (ver 2012) with another product key, only to find same problem exists.

Having wasted 2 days trying to install Norton Internet Security on my new computer, I have found a solution.

DO NOT BUY OR RECCOMMEND NORTON INTERNET SECURITY TO ANYONE.

I HAVE RESOLVED THIS PROBLEM BY INSTALLING A COMPETITORS PRODUCT.

I had all the problems in this thread and have been running with another brand firewall. After a few weeks waiting for someone to come up with a fix I tried to reload Norton Internet Sec.

It now works ok. Here's what I've done. After running on F-secure firewall for 2 weeks I got the FBI Ransom Trojan locking my computer. I booted into safe mode (hitting F8) and ran Malwarebytes which removed it. Everything run well for another week.

I read another thread to do this: " windows key r----" delete files and folders, reboot run live update.

I then went to www.norton.com/update to reload NIS. While downloading NIS I received an error that said it could not continue. Send error to Norton and received back Norton Power Eraser that removed 2 malware and loaded NIS ok. Everything now running ok.

As per pior post. I think most of this problem is caused by malware/trojans/virius on computer. I'm now running great and my icons on desktop have stopped changing size.  That's why Nortons not coming up with a fix.

I will now do this with my daughters computer: " run malwarebytes" should do this anyway. Do "windows key r" and delete files and folders, open and close internet explorer to create a new "low folder" (allows printing from ie).

Manual download "Norton Power Eraser" and run. When I did this it removed "ieprodll" and "ieprocx.exe".

I'm just a average user and this is all at your own risk, but it works for me.
