I am attempting to copy a failing 250Gig Harddrive to a new SATA 1Terrabit drive.  I have checked to old drive and have about 15-20 failed sections of the drive.  I have defragged about 4 times and I am still receiving ERROR EC8F17B3 and ERROR a7c30019 Running Job Copy Drive failures at exactly 18% and in about 6.32 minutes.  Is there anything I can do to save/copy this HDD?

It took a few tries but I think i have the image now.  I partitioned the drive in two and formatted the first one left the second one as unallocated and backed up to the formatted partition.  The original C: drive has about 90Gig on it and the backup on the partitioned D: drive has about 70Gig.

 

Now what?  Thanks for the help by the way.

It would have been better if you had deleted the first partition and created the image in the second partition but don't change it now.

 

OK, remove the old HD from your computer (essential to do this) and install the 1 TB HD in the boot position (SATA cable to port 0 on the motherboard). Boot from the Ghost 15 CD and do this...

 

click Recover My Computer
Next
in the "View recovery point by" (drop down arrow) choose Filename  
click Browse
double click Computer
navigate to the folder containing your Recovery points
select the relevant Recovery point
click Open
Next
click Edit
click Delete Drive (the highlighted partition doesn't exist yet)
tick Resize drive after recover and type in your desired partition size 
dot in Primary partition
tick Check for file system errors after recovery
tick Set drive active (for booting OS)
tick Restore original disk signature 
tick Restore master boot record 
OK
tick Verify recovery point before recovery
Next
no tick in Reboot when finished
Finish
