I have had this happen to me. Just reboot and run LU again.

Thanks Dieselman

I will try this and see what happens.

Hi Dieselman

Just to get it clear on my side Re boot means to restart the computer?I did this then did manual liveupdate and the same update did not install where as another one installed perfectly. This is my first error with any NIS product.

Thanks Mo

Do you have any other firewall product installed in your computer? If yes, please disable the firewall and then run LiveUpdate. If the issue still persists, open Internet Explorer> Tools> Internet Options> under Connections tab, remove all the entries under Dial-Up and Virtual Private Network Settings> Click LAN settings> Under Automatic Configuration, check the box Automatically detect settings> Apply and OK. Now run LiveUpdate and check for the issue.

Hi Vineeth

No extra firewalls, just NIS 2009 and the windows one which Norton automatically disables.I am recieving all other updates but this one.Antiphishing to verify authentic websites.I do have bluecoats K9 filter. But that has never conflicted with Norton before? Before I do the changes will I have to do anything to put them back.I am fairly new and in experienced with this sort of change.

Cheers Mo

K9 is known to conflict with alot of different porducts. Its actually not even needed if you use Firefox.

Hi Dieselman

Thanks but I like the way K9 works,And NIS live update is working for all other updates bar this one,the pulse updates are happening so all I want to know is why this one update wont install. Is anyone from Norton aware of this happening to anyone else?I have not heard back from the Symantec support via email,I understand its the weekend so I will wait and  see.I haven't tried Vineeths suggestion yet as is that what you should do or wait and see what Symantec says about this issue?I have checked in my lan settings and there are no boxes checked at all following Vineeths suggested path.

Cheers Mo

If you follow other posts you will see that Symantec is working on a Hotfox for Live Update.

Thanks for that info, since it does not seem to be affecting my machine in any other way I'm not that worried,Although a Hotfox might have a conflict with a cool cat!!(couldn't resist LOL)

Cheers Mo

Hi all

Anymore thoughts on this?Shall I just wait for an Symantec employee or is Dieselman right and there is a fix coming? But since mine is only one update that's not installing and not all of my live updates failing will that fix be appropriate to my situation?

Cheers Mo

just to let you know its still not installing.

Please be patient. Just cause a hot fix is being worked on doesnt mean its going to be released hours from your last post. I assure you it will be fixed.

Hi All

Here is my latest, the 1 update still not being processed,These are in my history logs are these current

Intrusion prevention engine version 4.1.0.61 definitions set version 20081009.001

Intrusion prevention is monitoring 1214 signatures driver version 9.0.0.172

I am having trouble understanding the help from Symantec support in regards to running the intelligent updater.restarting my PC then running liveup date via another URL which was provided on the contact email?

I just want to have some understanding of why I'm doing this and what to expect.

Cheers Mo

mo,

The symptoms you are describing - web protection defs failing, error 8920, 200 - is a known issue and we are working to bring out a fix for this. This issue affects only the web protection definitions, your virus definitions and everything else should be updating normally and automatically.

Thanks ChristopherA

MJP has sent me some info,And thanks for confirming that its ok as the other definitions are updating.I still like Norton regardless of the hic-cups,Lifes full of them so why not the Net!!:smileywink:

Cheers Mo

Why has this thread been marked as issue solved when that is not the case? While Symantec is aware of the issue and a fix is in the works the issue is still current.

I have tried the fix MJP sent by PM and it only worked for a couple of updates then web protection updates failed again. Live update gives the same 8920, 200 error.

Please remove the solved tag.

Bubbear

Sorry bubbear

For me it's solved until the fix comes out,Unless of course as you have experienced it fails after one or two updates.then I will have to re post. How do you unsolve a thread?I suppose I will give Symantec credit for giving me a fill in solution until they can properly solve this issue.

Cheers Mo

Sorry Mo,

That wasn't intended as an assault on you at all - I apologise if I offended you. I know nothing of how a message is marked as solved. Did you do it or did a mod do it? I guess if you are happy with the defs not updating until the fix comes out then the issue is resolved for you although the problem still exists.

In my case, the fix given by MJP did result in me being able to run live update and succesfully update the defs then I think only two more automatic updates were done then they stopped updating. Runing live update gives the same error as before.

Bubbear

Hi bubbear

No offense taken,Its hard to write what you're meaning to say and not have it come across in the wrong way(challenge of the net!):smileyhappy:I only applied the fix by MJP today so I suppose I will find out soon enough.

Cheers Mo

Yes I did mark it as solved.

TTBOMK, only the original poster can mark a problem solved.
