Hi ZoeM,

I asked for your post to be moved to a thread of it's own so it recevied the proper attention.

First of all, below are instructions for posting a screenshot.

What is the "other thing" you trie to downlaod form the internet?

Can you tell us in more detail about your situation.  Things such as your operating system adn SP#, the name of your Norton Product and the version number (Support > Aboout).

How long has your Norton Product been installed and was it working properly before?

Do yu have any other security programs installed?  If so what are they?  Also did you have any others installed in the past and how were they removed?

I know it's alot of questions, but hopefully once w get the answers we'll be able to assist you.

Thank you so much for your help.

This is the link that Norton snet me to, where i tried to download the software: https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?actstat=activated&buildname=Retail&conntype=225000000&coreservice=Startup+Type%3Aauto+State%3ARunning&cpu=Intel64+Family+6+Model+42+Stepping+7&ct=us&curdefs=20121112.016&datetime=11-13-2012+12%3A10%3A36+PM+GMT&defbrowser=Chrome&docid=v62545568_EndUserProfile_en_us&dsfree=389.92&dstotal=495.16&endpointid=%7BAA66730C-6027-4901-81C5-442C3872B28E%7D&entsrc=CED_Selfheal&env=prod&error=104&hbguid=AA66730C-6027-4901-81C5-442C3872B28E&hcmode=false&heartbeatID=AA66730C-6027-4901-81C5-442C3872B28E&ieversion=9.0.8112.16421&layout=Retail&layouttype=Retail&lg=en&lic_attr=21124114&lic_type=2&memload=29&memtotal=6922&module=8504&os=windows&oslang=iso%3AENG&oslocale=iso%3AAUS&osvers=6.1&osversion=6.1+7601.17944.amd64fre.win7sp1_gdr.120830-0333&partnerid=&partnername=Retail&plang=sym%3AEN&plid=2&product=Norton+Internet+Security&psn=3XF8JG29WJG3&pvid=f-home&remdays=125&sessionid=%7B62FA4553-4217-4731-9B60-8A89D868EFC6%7D&skuf=21171505&skum=21171805&skup=21174645&spversion=1.0&sublength=142&subremaining=125&substatus=current&symskucurrent=21174645&symskumedia=21171805&utm_medium=product&utm_source=symc&version=19.9.0.9

I have no other anti-virus softwares on my computer and never have had any other. I have a HP laptop with windows 7. The norton software i am using, it the Internet Security 2012, for 3 PC's for 1 year protection, Norton by Symantec, this protection should have not run out yet as well.  I have had it installed since around March 2012.

The norton software that is installed will no longer open now. I used to have a gadget that appeared on my desktop that should when it needed fixing, which now is blank and shows no colour or activity.

Hopefully this helps!
Below is the error that appeared

Thanks for the addtional info and the screenshot.

Please go to the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool  and run it as directed.

It sounds like an upgrade from NIS 2012 to NIS 20.2.0.19 has occurred.  The Gadget you speak of is no longer available in that version, nor is the desktop shortcut automatically created.

We still need answers to the following:   Things such as your operating system and SP#, the name of your Norton Product and the version number (Support > Aboout).

Do you have an icon in the system tray (lower left corner of your desktop by the clock)?  Can you open NIS that way?

Hi,

My dad had a look at it, and the norton anti-virus is now working.

Thanks so much for you effort

Zoe :)

You are very welcome - could you perhaps tell us what fixed it, as knowing the solution mayu also help others if they encounter the same situation?

He just looked at the task manager and reviewed the processes.  And then turned off the laptop at the power button as it was not turning off.  We left it off for 2 hours and now it works!

Easy solution to what was such a difficult problem

Thanks

Thanks for getting back with us ZoeM - so basically a hard shut down with a reboot fixed the situation.

I did all this but stil it is not work :(

Maybe, the Enigma SpyHunter left in my computer a malware which prevents Norton to be installed properly.

I did all steps to resolve this problem: used "Norton Power Erazer", uninstalled any non-Symantec security product (i "confess" that I downloaded a week ago Enigma SpyHunter... :-(  ), and download and runned the "Norton Removal Tool" but it not helped me :( because I got still this error message.

Please, help me!

Hi, motiofer. Those codes relate to a file corruption or conflict problem. Enigma SpyHunter is a program the can be malicious, and I suggest you visit one of the free malware removal forums listed below.

The volunteers on these forums are trained in malware removal

Stay with the one expert until your system is clean.

Thanks F4E - I'll do later.

Meanwhile, I installed the NIS (from my purchased CD) but not ran Automatic LiveUpdate and now, it works but the program is not updated.... I know' that if I'll do an Automatic LiveUpdate - it will be stuck again because after my last installation I got this mark: "your installation isn't complete because of some bugs during the Automatic LiveUpdate" (or something like that....).

So, I have installed NIS but not with last update (from more then 180 days...).

What can I do? Please help.

Did you see this thread and solution?

http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Norton-Internet-Security-Error-Messag...

I kept getting errors ('install file cannot be properly validated') when trying to install the new version of NIS 21.2.0.38. I had to adjust my settings in IE (I didn't need to reset it as the above solution says, just adjust one setting, but then again, I had a different error)

FWIW, I found the key to my problem was in addition to adjusting the settings was to ALSO make IE my default browser to get the new version installed.

Hi, motiofer. You may want to try the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool, to see if that fixes the problem.

It will give you a clean install. The link is here   http://www.norton.com/nrnr

After the reinstall run Live Update manually, until no more are found.

You could also try running a full scan with MalwareBytes Free, to see if it finds anything.

If the problem is still present after trying these suggestions, I'd go with the malware forums listed earlier.
