Receiving error message as follows: "Unable to take required System restore point, error: -2147212513" when running registry clean up. Indicates broken files? What can I do to resolve?
Hello northernpike20
Welcome to the Norton Community Forum
Can you please tell us which NIS you are trying to install? What version is it please? What operating system and service pack are you using and is it 32 or 64 bit please? Have you done the windows updates yet? What kind of hard drive is it? Sorry for all the questions.
Hi Northernpike20,
Welcome to the forum. I'm sure there is someone here who will be able to help you. Meanwhile, could you provide the information about your system that floplot mentioned? This will help the troubleshooters focus on the problem for your type of system.
Normally, your system Services display should have an item called Terminal Services. It's one of the main services called by Windows when Windows starts up, and runs under an instance of the program called svchost.exe. I think it uses a dll called termsrv.dll located in the system32 folder of Windows (if you have a 32-bit machine)
Terminal Services "...Allows multiple users to be connected interactively to a machine as well as the display of desktops and applications to remote computers. The underpinning of Remote Desktop (including RD for Administrators), Fast User Switching, Remote Assistance, and Terminal Server."
Terminal Services depends on another service called RPC - Remote Procedure Call, so both of these services need to be up an running for the system to have this functionality.
A couple more questions:
- When your hard drive crashed, how did you install Windows on the replacement drive?
- When you are logging in to your system now, are you logging in as Administrator?

I have Norton 360 and two days ago this error message started to appear when I try to run a scan.
"An error has occurred with Norton Internet Security
Error 3038,104"
Clicking the One-Click Support option says that an error has been fixed and that I should restart. I have tried this but it makes no difference.
I have been using Norton without problem since I renewed in November 2010. I have tried downloading the 20110122-003-v5i32.exe file as suggested on the website but this has not helped. Any help would be appreciated. (I have have Windows Vista and a 32 bit

Sorry for the problems. To help us troubleshoot:
- Download GatherSymantecInfo.zip from:
- ftp://ftp.symantec.com/misc/tools/mactools/GatherSymantecInfo.zip
- Expand GatherSymantecInfo.zip by double clicking on it.
- In GatherSymantecInfo folder, double-click GatherSymantecInfo.command.
- When prompted, enter your computer user password. If you don't see a prompt for your password, then you need to restart your computer--this is a bug in Snow Leopard that sometimes causes a blank Terminal window to appear.
- When prompted for a subscription key, simply press return.
- Post the SymantecInfo.txt file here on the forums. If you have problems posting it here, please contact me privately on the forums via private message with your e-mail address.
I have a MAC, and every time I try to "update everything" an error message pops up: "an error has occured please try again".
Anyone knows whats up?
dale
When doing a live update I get a pop-up that states: An error occurred, Try again.
What's up with that? Am I getting Updates?
