Hey all,
After upgrading to Windows XP SP3, I am getting the following error messages when I try to make a backup with Norton Ghost 9.0:
High Priority Error: An error occurred creating a backup of drive C:\. Error EC8F0010: Cannot track changes to drive C:\. Error 000003ED: The volume does not contain a recognized file system.
Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted. 0x80004005 (Norton Ghost 9.0)
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Norton Ghost, but I generated the same errors. Also, when viewing my hard drives in the main page, the drive details indicate that no free space exists, which is not the case.
I would appreciate any ideas on solutions.
Best regards, Steve
Did you upgrade to SP3 when Norton Ghost 9 was already installed? If yes, then you need to reinstall Norton Ghost. Use the Norton Removal Tool to remove the current installation of Norton Ghost and then reinstall Norton Ghost.
The backups which you have already taken, are still valid and will not be deleted by Removal Tool. Depending on your needs, you can keep or delete the old backups. They wont be shown in the Norton Ghost backup list after reinstalling. Also, you need to define new backup for your drive after reisntalling Ghost.

Vinod,
Thanks for the suggestion. I had already tried something similar and had the same errors. I used the Windows Add/Remove software option to remove Ghost -- would you expect different results using the Norton Removal Tool? I will go ahead and try this and let you know if I have any success.
Best regards, Steve
Yeah. Running the Norton Removal Tool will remove the remnants of Norton Ghost from Windows registry which are left over by uninstalling through Windows Add/Remove. Add/Remove can't remove all the registry entries of Norton Ghost.
Also I am not sure whether Norton Ghost 9.0 is compatible with SP3 as SP3 was not available when Norton Ghost 9 was launched. If you still face issues with Norton Ghost 9, then the problem might be of compatibility with SP3. In that case, I suggest you to upgrade to Norton Ghost 14 which is fully compatible with SP3.
