I've tried to find a lot on the internet, but that was more difficult than i thought.
I just bought a new SSD from Samsung 256 gb notebook starter. I have a MSI gt780-235NL laptop with two harddrive bays inside. One was empty.
I tried to do it with tthe USB Sata connection, but that was to slow. That's why I put the SSD in the empty bay. Computermanagemant saw it and I make a partition with drive letter F. Than I start Ghost 15.0. I tried to do the Copy Hard Drive. Everything goes fine. So I started my computer and push the F11 to start from the SSD. When he started, my keyboard and mouse didn't work anymore. SO I can't log in. I even tried it two times with replacing the old Harddrive.
Then I tried to format again. I make tree partitions. Because I had some partitions to replace windows. Tried to copy again. When I was starting up, I get the error that some hardware was changed and cannot start windows. Please use a Windows CD. Lucky me I had an old CD. But how can I get an exact working copy on my SSD?
I've looked in the BIOS, but there was anything good. Please help me, because I want my SSD to start the windows and use the other drive for data.
Verify that your system still boots with only the old drive installed. You may have caused some problems by trying to boot with both attached.
The problem you had was caused by you giving the new partition a drive letter. Since you gave it F, windows tried to boot as the F drive and thats not going to work.
If your systems boots with the old drive, add the new drive and delete the partitions on the new drive.
Do the copy drive into unallocated space, you do not need a partition defined.
Make sure to include any hidden partitions, expecially "system reserved partition" if your running windows 7.
After the copy is done, shut down your system and remove the old drive, you must not let the system boot the first time with both drives attached.
Post a screen shot of disk management if your unsure of needing any additional hidden partitions.
Thanks for your answer. I put a screenshot of my current harddrive. When I open my Norton Ghost I can only 1 drive Copy to the new SSD. When I do it a second time, Norton overwrite the old partition. How can I copy all the partitions to my new drive?
I give it a try now. Hope you will standby for me :P.
I can't remove my last post, but deleting partition was succesfull (only with diskpart and 'delete partition override'. Now I try to do the 'copy drive'. But I can only select 1 drive. What do I have to do next?
In disk management, on the bottom section, right click on the C drive and slect "shrink" .
Reduce the size of the partition to less than 237GB.
Let us know if does not let you because of system files.
If your able to shrink the partition, your ready to continue.
You will need the hidden 100MB "system reserved partition" in addition to the C drive. You can see that is the active partition and it contains your boot files.
You will need to copy that one first, and then the C partition.
Follow the top section: "For Copy Drive if a SRP is present".
After you copy the 2 partitions you must shut down the system and remove the old drive.
The new SSD should be connected as master and it must be the only drive present when booted the first time.
Since we are not copying the recovery partition because it would be a big waste of space, you may need to do a startup repair again because the partition locations have changed.
