Every time I boot my computer I get a live update request?
It says:" Would you like to run Liveupdate now to install the available updates"
This happens even if I have only just run live update no more than a minute previously
Can anyone explain why this is happening and/or suggest a way to dismiss this annoying occurence!
OK I looked at that thread and clearly this is something Symantec should be doing something about!
What is their opinion and what do they think should be done in this case?
I think they should reply and give us subscribers some information as to what they think is the best thing to do.
Please check and see if "Notify Me" is checked and let us know if it is or not.
Also, what Product are you using and Version, e.g. Norton Internet Security 2008?
Robert, can you manually run LiveUpdate and see if there are any packages that are failing to install (don’t run it from the pop-up)? Nobody ever answered that request in the thread that you cited.

I bet there aren't.
Why don't you FINALLY check the true issue that happens - a user unchecks the 'Notify me... ' option in the user interface of NAV/NIS 2008, but the ALUNotify entry doesn't dissapear from the Run section in the registry?
It should be easy to recreate it.
No everything is the same as it's been for ages
It's just that every time i boot my computer I bet the popup which says;"Would you like to run Liveupdate now to install the available updates"
This only just started recently and as others have said if it's in the registry in the Run section than that is the normal behaviour.
It's really annoying. It should not be happening and what do Symantec intend to do about it?
When I run Live update from the normal interface it just says that my antivirus system is up to date.
One thing that's different.... in the main dialog "settings" where I can turn on "Automatic Live Update" it will not accept my changes to try and make it active?
Now everything is messed up!
I decided to use the Symantec application removal tool to remove all my Symantec products hoping that might find the solution.
Everything went fine until in the re-install of NIS2008 the installer asked for a system driver called SymIMV.sys which was supposedly located in
C:\Program files\common files\symantec shared\symnetdrv The problem is there was no such file and without that I could proceed no further.
So now I'm stuck! I've got no virus protection - no firewall and no Symantec products at all.
Any suggestions from one of the Symantec techs watching these forums would be greatly apreciated.
HELP!!!!!
At this point, it’s probably best to run Symantec’s Norton Removal Tool again. Since you have an active subscription, you are entitled to use the newer Norton Internet Security 2009 which can be installed from the Norton Update Center after you’ve used the removal tool. This should solve your installation problem as well as your LiveUpdate notice issue.
maybe I’m not reading this right, but isn’t the request that pops up when you turn your computer on just sking if you want to CHECK for updates?
Everything in the Antivirus segment is OK now.
I went to the local customer service center, explained my situation and the tech service person installed NIS 2009 remotely and solved that.
What I'm unsure of now is whether or not to re-install Norton System Works which I still have the installation files for.
I am suspicious that this whole Live Update pop-up mess was caused by NSW.
What do you think Reese - should i go ahead and install System Works or leave it off my computer?
I would be interested to hear what your opinion is?
Robert, I’m glad to hear that you have made some progress. Regarding SystemWorks, I really don’t know the specifics but I’m getting the impression that there is a free 2009 update available for that as well and that should prevent any other compatibility issues that you could have with NIS 2009.

If Robert has NSW Standard, 2006-2008 and he downloads the trial version of the 2009 edition of the same product, he will be able to successfully enter his activation fee and use the remainder of his subscription time.
If he has the basic edition or the premiere edition, I don't know what his options are any more.

As of a message from Tim Lopez yesterday the V12 NSWs were not yet on the Update Center although I imagine they are on the Trialware ......
Thanks everyone for your assistance and help.
This is one of the most helpful forums on the internet and without it I would be in a lot worse position.
It wouldn’t be what it is without that revolutionary concept of Symantec’s that perhaps the customer really is suffering because we have been less than perfect and that the answer is not always to reinstall our product and if that does not work then reinstall Windows … <vbg>
Take a look here.
