Everytime I signon there is something else Norton wants me to buy!

I am a longtime Norton user and always liked it because I thought it was a complete PC/laptop suite that protected me from pretty much everything. Now, nearly every time I signon, they are trying to sell me some other ‘protection’ that will cost me alot of money. A little while ago it was Norton Ultimate Utilities, today it was some kind of ID protection for another 50 bucks! If I signed up for everything I’d go BROKE. I’m done with it and next time my Norton needs to be re-upped I’ll cancel it. I’m done!

you can diable it but i can only help you if you got the 22.x version if you got the 24.x i dont now how to do it in the 22.x go to the old version then settings then advance settings and then special offer then disable it i cant translate it 100% from a danish version to a english but that is how it works ca it cant remove it 100% but it can take 70 to 80 procent of the problems remember to say problem fix ore add a hart if it works

Agreed! Always up selling with scare tactics. Now a huge yellow ‘notice’ that norton may not respond as they have been hacked by an unknown entity. Really. Thought that was the whole purpose of norton. I am subscriber for over 12 years. Now, suddenly I am ‘subscribing’ to over $400 dollars annually. I have Private Browser installed, now my system is very slow, don’t know what the browser is doing or what sites I am at. Used to be so simple. It’s like buying a car and asking if I want to ensure my safety with a 4th tire installed. Honestly.

@PaulC_Fenton There are older threads from the old forums which had links and instructions to disable a few things which would stop about 90% of the intrusive notifications. Unfortunately those links are now gone. Here are some things you can do:

First, disable Norton Tamper protection in settings: *This will allow you to rename the 4 files listed below. I hope this helps with the issues you are being hounded with.

Rename these files and reboot:

nuPerfScan.exe
tuIH.exe
wa_3rd_party_host_32.exe
wa_3rd_party_host_64.exe

I’m not finding … with N360 v24.9

nuPerfScan.exe
tuIH.exe
wa_3rd_party_host_32.exe
wa_3rd_party_host_64.exe

Yes, those files still exist with version 22.24.8.36 . I haven’t been served up version 24.xx as of this posting.

also everytime logging in i am asked to buy some other add on to my plan. on pension only i cannot afford all these extras that are saying my computer is at risk if i do not buy these add ons. maybe time to look at other companies.\

Totally agree with this. I have two Norton products which i love but every time i run a scan etc its trying to sell me something else. Norton do us all a favour and stop it or you will end up losing more customers than you gain. Idiots…

Hello @PR_HOPE
are you running Smart Scan?

Note: by my v24

  • Mute special offers…does not mute Norton promotional offers when running a Smart Scan.
  • Mute special offers + Mute informational notifications…does not mute Norton promotional offers when running a Smart Scan.
  • Mute all notifications temporarily…does not mute Norton promotional offers when running a Smart Scan.

Agreed. After signing up for Utilities Ultimate to fix 3000+ apparent issues, literally every feature had a padlock next to it and I couldn’t use. Tried calling support line 3x and it ended the call before connecting me to anyone or even a robot. What a joke, subscription cancelled…

I FEEL THE SAME WAY! I’ve used Norton since 2007. Always thought they were the best…but they have been chipping out some of what used to be regular features and making them separate and you have to pay extra to use them. grrrrrrrrrr I’m going to find another service.

You don’t need to login.

Every time I get a warning that my computer has an “urgent” issue (at least once a day and NEVER urgent), there’s a “Continue” button to fix the issues.

The result is a new window that tells me that, in order to fix this, I have to buy Norton Utilities Ultimate.

Well, I already own Norton Utilities Ultimate.

So, I’m wondering: Have the salespeople taken over Norton or are the developers so awful that they are unable to figure out that I already subscribe to Utilities Ultimate and just being up Utilities Ultimate so I can fix the “issues”?

I’m thinking both.

I’m also wondering if I should be looking at another security application/suite that is not intrusive and doesn’t constantly annoy me to let me know, through intrusive popups, that a scan has been completed and I had no issues. I also want to know why clicking on “Don’t show this again” has no effect on Norton’s behavior.

I’m thinking that that’s a result of mediocre developers.

A friend, former colleague and well-known technology journalist asked me, “Why do you even use Norton anything???!!!” I’m finding out where he’s coming from.

@Grandpa_of_Loba Even before the 24.xx release, our products had, to some extent, began being used as a marketing platform. Having said that, there is an EULA that comes with software in todays world, where, most companies exercise their right to add or delete features without notice. Licensing software is something even Microsoft does. In their view our machines can be used with said software however the creator wishes, and without concern for privacy. This is where we are currently. There is nothing noteworthy about an EULA, with the exception, when we select “do not show this again” we mean just that. So then, comes a totally reworked version 24.xx which is in my view 100% marketing targeted. Nothing wrong with that except, when we say “do not show this again” we again mean it. When snake oil trashes our computer are we compensated? Definitely NOT, once again refer to the almighty EULA for the fine print no one ever reads. Its there my friend. I am being hounded DAILY with a full screen banner from Microsoft that this computer and Windows 10 that is installed on it will reach end of servicing life October 2025. No I am 66 years old thank you and do not believe I need to be pestered to the edge of insanity about that. I already know about it. Again, there isn’t any way to stop the chiding. I have multiple Windows 11 devices already, its up to me to decide when I want this current Windows 10 computer to be no longer front facing the internet anymore. I just wish MS would see that in the same manner as I. In the end game of it all its ultimately our choice to use a product or, dump it and find another that fits the needs we have.

Prior to Windows 8 being released, there was some serious justification for using 3rd party tools to keep your OS and hard drive tidy, working at its best. As the Windows OS progressed it is now doing a seriously good job of keeping things nice and tidy, third party tools are snake oil sell-ups. For the life of me I don’t know what drives companies to waste valuable resources, invest in the development of these tools, other than recouping older acquisition costs. That too is understandable. One again, when we say “do not show this again” we mean just that.

Now that we are into 2025 I can smell those winds of change coming for some things. Hoping the issues here is one of those things that does change for the better.

The new UI is indeed 90% upselling ads/trash.

On just about every subsection of the menu you are pestered to run their Quick Scan which should be renamed as “Quick Scam” given the nasty upselling practice behind this.

Someone should put a copy of this new Norton in a time capsule to remind future souls of the greedy faceless corporates we relied on to keep us safe.
