Ex-US manufactured digital components

Issue abstract: Is there a way to safely use components purchased from ex-US manufacturers?

Detailed description: I recently bought a media player, which, of course was made in China. I loaded a power point presentation onto a flash drive to loop on a TV, through the media player. I’ve very intentionally id’d the flash drive, so that I don’t plug it back into my computer, in the event that the media player itself loaded malware onto the flash drive. My question is: going forward, what is the most optimal way to determine the risk of such components? Am I destined to buy stacks and stacks of flash drives that I can only use once, or are Norton’s safe guards and alerts enough to warn me of any potential hazards from such digital components? Any suggestion would be helpful.

Hello Paul. Who exactly makes this device, the company name? To use Norton and scan it you’d need to connect it to a computer that isn’t front facing the internet, not internet connected and it must have Norton installed.

To scan a media player with Norton, open your Norton security program, navigate to the “Scans” section, then choose “Custom Scan” to select the specific media player drive or folder you want to scan and click “Scan Now”; this will allow Norton to check the media player for potential threats like viruses or malware.

Key steps:

Open Norton:** Launch your Norton security application.
Access Scans:** In the main window, click on “Security” then select “Scans”.
Choose Custom Scan:** Select “Custom Scan” to target a specific location.
Select Media Player:** Browse to and select the media player drive or folder you want to scan.
Initiate Scan:** Click “Scan Now” to start the scan process.

Note: Make sure this setting is enabled for USB connections scanning and other devices when detected
