Exe file location for NIS 2013 in Windows 8 to create desktop shortcut

I just got Windows 8 for my PC, however I don't have a desktop icon for NIS. I know that this is as per design. On my Windows 7 PC I created it via the Start Menu, however in Windows 8, the regular start menu is missing.

I checked in C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\ and found UIstub.exe and created the desktop shortcut using the Send to desktop option, and it launches the interface. However the icon is not the regular icon for Norton 360.

Can any one tell me the exact exe file, which can be used to create the shortcut and launch the interface and also come up with the correct icon. (I don't want to hunt for the .ico file to update the icon created via UIstub.exe)

I'm not in windows 8 and I'm using a previous version, so this may not help much.

Try looking for the icon in the file "settings.dll", should be in the same folder.

right click on your shortcut and select properties.

Click the "shortcut" tab

Click "Change Icon".

In the file path that is listed, change uistub.exe to settings.dll, you shouldn't need to use the browse button, just change that last filename.

The directory for where the NIS 2013 shortcut is saved in for Windows 8 is :

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Norton Internet Security

Also here is how you can pin or find NIS2013 easily:

1. Click on the Windows logo key to open metro interface.

2. Right click to bring up the all apps option:

 Untitled.png

3. In the All apps section, every single software you have in Windows 8 is listed alphebatically. NIS2013 is listed in the "Norton Internet Security" category. Right click on the tile which brings up the following options as below:

Untitled2.png

Select "open file location". This will open the shortcut directory in a window in desktop mode. Similarly, you can pin to taskbar which will add the icon onto your taskbar for faster access.

The directory for Startmenu is similar to the Windows 7 Startmenu directory. Only that the Startmenu has been converted to the Metro interface.
