Expiration Date

NIS gives 366 days until expiration. I often must install the next version of the product 5 to 10 days before the expiration date. I don't renew. I install the next version of the product from CD as that is our protocol. This means that every year I lose 5 to 10 days of subscription time because I can't wait until the last minute to update a small office full of computers. Over the years, I have now lost about two months of subscription time. I get plenty of nag screens in the last 15 days before "renewal" time. How about making the subscription time be 376 days until expiration?

Newbie?  Yeah.  I don't post or lurk a lot.

Hi bitbyter,

It's a case of making the subscription "go to eleven."  No matter how many days of subscription time a license grants you, if you renew 5 to 10 days before expiration, you are still going to have those 5 to 10 days of paid time that you don't use - i.e., you'll only use 365 days of a 375 day license.  I've always thought it was rather nice that Symantec at least adds one day to a standard year to give you a full 365 days, plus one to renew on.

There is no option to add the days that have been lost with the previous subscription automatically. However if you contact the Support adn tell the situation. They add the days to your new subscription. That we we do not loose the subscription days, that we have paid for.

Yes, I understand, but it is highly impractical for me to uninstall and re-install 10 systems in one day while people are working on them. Particularly when some incompatible program may need to be uninstalled to do the installation.

Like, for instance, MS Security Essentials even though that program is configured to not actively load and scan in background and even though it existed without problems with a previous version of Norton--i.e., it is only functional on any given system when invoked--which is only done on rare occasions. Similar, perhaps, to having Malwarebytes hang around as an available adjunct scanner.

...and I'm not asking for a month, just a reasonable buffer considering working days and other constraints. Even 5 days would be better than one.

It would be useful to either have a 10 day buffer, or for the Account to acknowledge that when the old license is uninstalled and a new license is installed, on the same system, the time, from the old license, gets added--this typically happens in under an hour. The math involved is trivial. Symantec manages to keep track of how many licenses are currently installed and how many days are left. Think about what data needs to be collected for that (...and that we must willingly give up.) It's really not that complicated when the same account is maintained.

I am already asked the question about keeping settings around or not. I can actually make a decision among 4 choices and am not constrained to just 2.

While 10 days a year isn't killing us, it would be nice if it didn't concern us at all. Besides, it keeps shifting annual tasks on the calendar, often to inconvenient times.

Thanks for the suggestion to contact support. While this was useful years ago, and Symantec responded in a positive manner, it's yet another chore for me, and the many thousands like me. Thanks.

You do not have to uninstall and reinstall in order to add the time from a set of purchased keys from retail products. All you have to do is to enter the KEY into the box that comes up when you click on Renew and then on Use an existing key.

Or you can probably do it remotely through Norton Management by logging into that and entering the KEY(s) there.

I'm assuming you are buying new products to get the cheaper price than renewing on line with Norton? Are you buying a 10 usesr pack or a number of smaller packs?

Please fill in the details and see if we can help you.
