This might be a known issue.  I searched this site more exensively and found a link to a file that supposedly restores functionality after mistaken “expiration” messages.  I won’t be able to try the file until this evening, but will post a follow-up note if it works.

Good luck – let us know how you get on since it definitely can be corrected, if necessary manually by Norton at the source.

The “fix” didn’t work and, in fact, would not even complete its own installation.  I am sure that Customer Service can correct this, indeed, if only by giving me a new key, but how on earth can I talk to anyone at Symantec without having to pay a fee?  This isn’t the friendliest support site when you consider that it’s the only “no fee” option that Symantec offers (or so it seems to me).  :frowning:

Sorry that did not work.

Stick around and you'll find this is the friendliest support site you've ever visited <g> No fees and lots of support from Norton Staff who are honest to admit to bugs and faults and quick to post workarounds or fixes when they can.

I've flagged your situation for one of the Norton staffers (names in red) to help.

Thanks for taking the time to call out the need for attention.  The alternative is to buy another copy at Fry’s, which usually has one of the Norton backup products or suites available for virtually nothing after rebate, but that seems an inefficient way to go about solving this issue.  I appreciate the help.

BTDT but only when the subscription was expiring and a new version available.

You can visit the below site to start a FREE Chat session with our Customer Support team:

http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/selectproduct_ts.jsp

Email support on this page is also free, but may take a bit longer to get the issue resolved. Please let me know if this does not help. Thanks!

Tony, the page to which you referred me is the one that indicates that telephone and chat support costs $10.  However, by poking around long enough, I did find a free chat service under "customer support" rather than "tech support."  By remote from India, no less, the tech was able to upload a new version of the software to me and then installed it.  In the process, my Norton Password Manager got wiped out, but I should be able to reinstall that, so I think I am good to go now.  Thanks for your help.
