I noticed that since upgrading to NIS 2008 from NIS 2007, explorer.exe mem usage has increased.
After a reboot it is about 40MB and climbs to about 60MB as I use the computer (browsing the internet, using programs like WMP, etc).
It either stays there (at around 60MB) or sometimes will go down to 52MB-53MB.
That is higher than about 30MB I used to have when I had NIS 2007.
Could that have anything to do with all the things NIS 2008 is doing in the background?
Does such explorer.exe mem usage sound unusual or am I being an alarmist since the computer itself seems to be working fine?
Below are a couple of points that maybe of interest:
I have Windows XP MCE, SP2. 1GB of RAM
With NIS 2007 I used to run LiveUpdate manually. Now with NIS 2008 I have Automatic LiveUpdate set up to run every 4 hrs.
I checked memory on the computer with "CheckIt Diagnostics" (part of Norton Systemworks). All tests passed.
Full system scan runs once a week. No problems there.
Thank you, Alex.
Thank you for your reply, Vejdin.
I would prefer to avoid uninstalling.
Will keep it in mind as a last resort.
Alex.
I restarted the computer using Last Known Good Configuration and explorer.exe mem usage went down to about 25MB.
Don't know why, but I guess that's one option to use under the circumstances.
Also ran a full system scan with Malwarebytes and it found a couple of things not picked up by NIS 2008.
I’ve checked explorer.exe in taskmgr both with NIS 2009 and N360 installed and it uses no more than 30 MB. I advice you to uninstall NIS 08 temporarily to see whether the memory usage will drop down.
