I seem to missing something here...
I have backups for a system that I'm trying to run in a virtual machine under VMware Workstation. The machine has died so I thought I might try converting a backup to a virtual machine. This machine had Windows 7 with a System Recovery Partition. I notice that in Ghost when I try to convert to a VMDK I can only convert one partition to a single VMDK. It will not allow me to convert both partitions into a single VMDK. As a result, I end up with 2 VMDKs, as if they were 2 seperate disks. No matter how I try, I cannot get these VMDKs to boot.
I have found that I could convert only the main C: partition, and just skip the System Recovery partition then run a Windows Repair a couple of times, and in that way at least get it to boot. It starts to run mini setup, but then eventually seems to just lock up (it sits in mini setup for at least 3 hours. Finally got tired of waiting and killed it off).
I also tried another method - I created a blank virtaul disk, then booted the Ghost recovery disc and used it to copy the image back to this virtual disk. Unfortunately, that got me nowhere.
Anyone have any tips on converting Ghost backup images to Virtual Machines?
