I would like a qualified software engineer (investigator) to examine several email addresses I have been sent email from, to try to identify an extortionist. He uses different email addresses with every email but the content is usually the same. I have also received a text message from a mobile number that seems to be in California.
Are these the typical scam emails where the sender claims to have personal information about your online history and threatens to make it public if you do not pay? If so, there isn't much you can, or even need, to do, except ignore the messages. If you are actually being extorted, i.e., the sender is blackmailing you over some actual legitimate knowledge they possess about you, you need to contact law enforcement.
