In October, when I upgraded from an expiring OEM version of Norton Internet Security to NIS 2008, my new HP computer performance became very poor. Boot time was much longer (5+ minutes) and opening programs like Word and IE7 were much slower as well. Going to standby may take minutes. I tried using the Norton removal tool and reinstalling, but there was no performance improvement. After numerous calls to HP support and lots of minor tweaks, nothing worked. I finally solved the problem temporarily by backing everything up and performing a full restore on my hard drive to its original OEM state.
That worked well for a while, but with Norton about to expire again, I tried installing NIS 2008 this week and now I am back to the extremely slow performance. I am running Vista(32) Home Premium with SP1, 3 GB RAM, Pentium Dual Core E2200. It appears like there were some settings on the OEM NIS version that resulted in minimal impact on Vista, but when I installed NIS 2008 those settings were not retained, or something new in NIS2008 conflicts with Vista. Please advise. Thanks.
