I have a General Rule defined which is intended to block facebook.com and myspace.com, but it doesn't always work as intended, i.e. I am Randomly allowed access to these sites This rule is located at the top of the list of General Rules.
The rule is defined as follows:
Action: Block
Connections: Connections to and from other computers
Computers: Only the computers and sites listed below:
Rather than using the general firewall rules to block specific programs, you should try adding the two to the restricted sites zone in the Internet Explorer internet options.
The connections that you are trying to block are happening in the browser, which is allowed, so the general rules will not work the way you want.
General rules allow the required in/out traffic for the programs and operating system.
Program control rules aloow you to block or allow specific programs.
Internet Explorer controls the rules for browser security even if you are using some other browser.
