Failed To check for some updates on NIS 2009 Vrsion 16.7.2.10

Just new to this community.

 

I am experiencing this issue at the moment. I am running NIS 2009  v16.7.2.10. Problem is that when running live update manually it comes up with "failed to check for some updates  error 8921,301 (but if it finds some updates, it just downloads and they are always successful).  The existing hotfix on the site for this error does not work on this current version (when you try to run the hot fix it comes up with an error message saying that it only works with older versions of NIS 2009). I have spoken to Norton Techos three times now and they cannot tell me how to fix this issue saying that they are escalating the problem to the "reseach centre" (they also uninstalled and reinstalled the program twice). 

I have a desktop PC running Windows XP Home Service pack 3 and also a laptop PC running Windows Vista Home premium service pack 1 and both are experiencing the same problem.

I have used this program for some time now without any issues and only noticed the problem last week when I just went to manually run Live update. The program still works okay and does automatic downloads as soon as they become available.  The Nortons Globe has a green tick. Hope you can help.
