Failed to Initialize Disk Doctor Engine

I installed NU 16 yesterday and whenever  I click on the "Repair System Drive" option I get the error:  "Failed to Initialize Disk Doctor Engine!"

I can't optimize my drives.  How do I fix this?

Hi,

What is the operating system?

Thanks

Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 2.

I called Norton support and watched as Tech Support remotely reinstalled the software and it miraculously started working.  Unfortunately a day later I discovered that the defrag hangs the computer about 75% through the scan.  I tried scanning and repairing the disks first and there are no errors.  Then when I try to defrag again it hangs again about 75% through the scan.  Restarting the machine requires using system repair.

That is not all.  I have turned the scheduler off a couple of times and it turns itself back on wiping out all of the browser cookies in the "privacy scan"

Worse yet, now my system hangs when the screen saver comes on.  I had to disable the screen saver.  Sometimes it still hangs and I have to do system repair.  I have tried to revert to a time before NU16 was installed and there are no good restore points.  It fails no matter how far back I go.

Every day since I loaded it about the first week of November I have tried the Smart Update hoping that it will fix the program, but it says the program is already up to date.

Overall I would be happy just to remove this buggy software from my system.  I am looking at a complete software reload from the recovery disks.

Anyone else having NU16 problems?

I'm in the same boat! Can't wait for an update to fix all these issues!

Hey Weather,

I'll do my best to answer your queries:

"Unfortunately a day later I discovered that the defrag hangs the computer about 75% through the scan.  I tried scanning and repairing the disks first and there are no errors.  Then when I try to defrag again it hangs again about 75% through the scan.  Restarting the machine requires using system repair. You can try the troubleshooting steps below to see if it resolves the issue.

Step 1. Perform a "Repair Drives":
________________________________

1. Start Norton Utilities 16
2. Select the "Recovery" tab
3. Select "Repair Drives"
4. Select the drive that you wish to repair
5. Ensure the "Surface Scan" Driver operation is selected
6. Ensure also that the "Perform on boot" check box is checked
6. Click "Start"
7. Repaid Drives will begin on your next reboot

Step 2: Run the "Defragment Disks" feature:
____________________________________

1. Start  Norton Utilities 16
2. Select "Performance"
3. Select "Defragment Disks"
4. Select the same drive that you are performing the Repair Drives
5. Ensure that "Deep Defragmentation" action is selected
6. Ensure that the "Perform on boot" check box is checked
7. Select "Start"
8. Reboot your machine

If you need help with these steps please let me know.

Turning scheduler off may not be working because the scheduled task in Windows scheduler has unsucessfully being deleted. Can you go to Control panel > Scheduler and send me a screenshot or a list of your scheduled task?

What you can also do is go to Settings > Scheduler > Turn off Privacy scan from the scan options > click save.

Do you have windows Optimization turned on in Norton Utilities 16? If so can you please turn it off, restart your computer then see if this issue happens (I suggest you perform a backup before trying these steps).

We will go from here. Let me know how you go with solving these issues.

Regards,
