I have NIS 2011, Version 18.6.0.29; my OS is Windows 7, 64-bit; I have no betas or new applications.
Today after running a Norton Update, I clicked on “Full System Scan” – and nothing happened. I closed Internet Explorer, and tried running it that way – again, nothing happened when I clicked on “Full System Scan”
I rebooted, and on shutting down I received the following message:
ccSvchste.exe – Application Error
The instruction at 0x00000001 referenced memory at 0x00000001.
The memory could not be written.
Click OK to terminate the program.
I clicked OK and successfully rebooted.
After doing so, I am able to run a Full System Scan.
My questions:
[1] Why did this occur?
[2] For the few minutes that I was still online and could not run a Full System Scan, was my security protection compromised in real time?
[3] Unrelated, but why is there such a huge variation in the number of files scanned on a Full System Scan? Sometimes it’ll be ~ 200k, other times ~ 400k and sometimes ~ 800k. I know it has something to do with updating and if it’s recently looked at some sections, but it seems like a huge discrepancy in numbers.
TIA
