Fake "Urgent Update" Page appears daily on Firefox despite NIS

This is apparently a known problem at Firefox/Mozilla but no one there has yet to post a reasonable fix. Their solution is to ignore it.

The origination URL changes daily. DONT CLICK ON THIS LINK!!! (today it was: https:// aezaecommonsensehome . net/1801191426960/3bfbbf4372a7f250d1adea692927d685 . html )

On the PC I see this happening on it only happens when I'm on my ISP's Homepage. I have upto date NIS 22.7.0.76 installed and running on my PC as well as the Norton Toolbar installed and running in my Firefox browser.

Anyone have any ideas other than "ignore it"?

There is nothing wrong with Weather.com. It is the Weather Channel actually. Where Apple gets their weather info from on your iOS devices. Weather channel has a lot of sponsored ads on their site. A good ad blocker such as uBlock Origin will take care of this. I visit weather.com daily with no issues.

@bwanatom:

You may get weather data using Google.

20170103011351.pngPersonally you do not have bother w/ that Weather dot com. That site could track your real location. In my case, that site makes my Chrome almost unresponsive.

Thx...

This is not a Norton problem or detection. Mozilla is aware of this issue. I highly recommend installing an ablocker such as uBlock Origin. It is not a virus. It's a scam webpage. As long as you do not download or click on anything on that page you are all set. use Alt +F4 to close out your browser with no interaction.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/

You can download Zemana AntiMalware Portable and run a scan to verify everything is ok.

Weather.com is the only site that this shows up at.  I have no ad blocker installed.

What sites are you visiting when you see this screen? Have you installed an ad blocker?

It's back!!!!  I have not seen this screen for several months, but it reappeared yesterday and again today.

i also have had this as long as you ignore it and press the power button to turn off your computer

i have had many many different forms of this thing

like last year with the your computer is being held as hostage don't click on anything use the power button problem solved

but if you have clicked on something then it will have you just where it wants you caught

this redirect page to a spam or virus page is not a new issue it is caused by some web site you have visited although i have never figured out what sights have caused this

what it does is it sets up and resides someplace in Firefox its self

some of these also reset your home page search engines and your new page with most used sites

so no virus programs can find it

the best way to fix this  viscous little Trojan

is on the Firefox  menu bar click on help then troubleshooting information that will open a troubleshooting page and in the upper right corner is a button to refresh Firefox  this will reset Firefox back to the way that it was first installed

you will have to reset your home page but it does not erase all your book marks or any other aspect of your personal settings

i have used this many many times to fix this type of problem

just uninstalling Firefox and reinstalling will not fix this nasty little thing

Hello

Please do not try anyone else's solution that you might find in one of the sites. Each  step that someone else is told to do is different and any scripts are custom made. It depends on hardware and software installed in your computer and also what the software is doing in your computer. Just follow their instructions and ask questions if you don't understand something. You will be working with the expert  1 on 1.

Thanks.

Everyone's system is different. This pop up could be caused by more than one infection.

So you might as well start the process with one of the suggested sites. The sooner you start, the sooner you can get some resolution to this issue.

I have run a Norton full scan.  Also ran malwarebytes.  Found nothing.  Before I start checking some of the other websites that were suggested, I am wondering if anyone who has done that has found a virus that affects this situation.

Some more websites they are using

 einothelptheneedy.net
 windows10event.com
 ext.searchincognito.com
ailooperfectgaytube.net
 ahghumotorradundreisen.org

They seem to change their websites daily. I don't know if I am infected or the sites I visit.

If a full system scan with Norton does not find anything, I would suggest a second opinion scan using the FREE version of Malwarebytes. You can find it here http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/

Be sure you do not accept the offer of the free trial of the Premium version.

If that does not help, then I would suggest you sign up at one of the free Malware Removal sites below. Do not try to do anything on your own as it could make things harder for the Malware Removal expert at that site to help you. Choose one and stay there until your system is clean.

This "Urgent Update" just keeps going and going, like that darn battery.  I have not clue how to stop it and apparently neither does Mozilla or Norton.

sahnggo2speed

is also associated with this attempted virus. It redirected me off of some Heros of the Storm Guide website, and Ive been redirected off of other sites too. I know if you clear your cookies and catche, it stops for a little bit, but eventually comes back. so there is something that triggers it somehow, prob some ad.

This fake update disappeared for a few days for me, but today it is back again.  I have already seen it 3 times.  I have done complete scans with Norton, Malware Bytes and Microsoft Security Scanner and none have found anything.  Every time I encounter this, I exit from Firefox and restart Firefox.  Other than that, I have no idea what to do.  This is becoming quite a nuisance.

Thank you for the scientific proper response, but I have an aversion to any "radioactive" code and simply prefer to avoid at all costs.  I was simply surprised by its availability at such sites and you have gratefully reminded me that most anything is possible.

@safety: If I were U, I will choose to download that firefox-patch.exe > upload the Virustotal > come back here with more info, such as Digital Signatures, SHA256. For example, this thread https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1128118

description: Alarmsystemer7 company: as261 version: 2.0.0.0 size: 328 kb

Just say so... take care...

PS: U may view http://www.avgthreatlabs.com/us-en/website-safety-reports/domain/eijugonsemi.net/ for reference.

Whatever it was coming from it looks like my ISP or the advertiser must have removed the offending code so I didn't get to try your suggested fix.indecision
