agreed with mel, sorry to hear about the situation and pls do submit the sample to us so that we can make any needed updates to our protection.

norton security scan may get the job done, but i would recommend using the trial version of norton antibot, which you can download here:

http://shop.symantecstore.com/store/symnahho/en_US/ContentTheme/ThemeID.106300/pbPage.Trialware_en_US

antibot uses a different method of detection and removal that may work in some instances where other products do not.

pls do let us know how it goes,

I just tried Antibot after working on my kids computer all evening trying to remove that warning from the desktop. I ran Adaware twice before running Antibot. It seemed to do the job. I don't think it's related, but the computer has lost its wireless internet connection. But, it's a step in the right direction. Appreciate the assistance.

Thanks

Description of Problem:  A yellow triangle with an exclamation point pops up in the extreme bottom right corner with the following alert "Windows has detected spyware infection.  It is recommended to use special antispyware tools to prevent data loss.  Windows will now download and install the most up-to-date antispyware for you.  Click here to protect your computer from spyware."

What I've Done:  I've reset my browser defaults, I've run Norton, Adaware, and AVG after manually updating all three.  I have installed the latest Java.  I have searche donline and tried to find what would be the best way to manually take care of this and the information I found was for a red circle with an X in it with the same error.  Doing what they said I still have been unable to remove the virus/trojan.  When I first received the error I stupidly clicked it and Awolla spyware was installe don my computer which I promptly uninstalled and started running my scans and searching on the internet.

After 24 hours of failing, I'm here on the Norton forums, any assistance would be greatly appreciated.  I can post a HijackThis report if you would like or any Norton, AVG, Adaware reports you need.

Sounds like Vundo.

Let's try the easy way.

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

Than

Please download SuperAntispyware from Here , the free version will do the trick

Double Click superantispyware.exe to install the application.
  • Just download it to your desktop, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.

  • Once the program has loaded, select "Scan your computer", then click Perform complete Scan .
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, Superantispyware will show all the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

Lets hope this easy way will help.

hi MDeWolf - sorry to hear about the troubles with the spyware. i think the standard protocol is to submit a sample at:

https://submit.symantec.com/websubmit/retail.cgi

i'm no expert on hijackthis logs, but i'd be curious about what you have in the Norton quarantine. you might also run the norton standalone scanner in safe mode and see if that doesn't dig it out. you can get it here:
