False Positive detection for Bing.com

Dear Norton Customers,

Earlier this evening we learned Norton Security was alerting users of a Web Attack when visiting MSN.com and Bing.com.

A sample screenshot is shown here:

We discovered there was an error in the definition released this afternoon, Friday, July 13, 2018, which incorrectly listed MSN.com and Bing.com as an unsafe domain. We released a fix via Live Update this evening and the issue is now resolved. Both MSN.com and Bing.com are safe sites to visit.

If you have any concerns, please contact our support team.

Hi Floplot,

I did see that message, however, i believe the issue with GameStop (at the time) was still occurring after that post, but, again, looks to be fine now.

Sincerely,

H.B.

Hello H B

Please see this Announcement on the top of this Board.

Have a Good Night and

Thanks.

It would now appear that the Bing map on GameStop's Website can load, so, perhaps Norton has addressed this issue?

Hi,

Thank you for taking time out of your life to respond :-)

doesn't want you to forget about your sub.

The only "sub" i don't want to forget about is the one in the refrigerator.... (hearty laugh)

Hello H B

Those popups start showing up about 30 days before your subscription is supposed to expire. They just show up to remind the customer to renew their subscription or purchase it elsewhere to have ready for the expiration date. They will show up after your expiration date also because it takes a while for that team to find out that you have renewed your sub. Symantec doesn't want you to forget about your sub.

Have a Nice Day and

Thanks.

Thank you, Peter.  And, to clarify, the notifications that i don't necessarily need are the ones that pop up in the system tray indicating that my Norton product will expire in x amount of days - - not the alerts that indicate a malicious intrusion attempt was blocked.

Sincerely,

H.B.

I'll pass this along.

Hello once again Floplot,

Yes, the pervasiveness of this runs DEEP.  For example, i was on GameStop's Website examining if a certain game would be in the vicinity from where i am situated.  They USE Bing maps embedded on their page to work in concert with geolocation, however, the map was NOT allowed to load and the following was indicated:

I have noticed this occurrence with Microsoft-based browsers.  In order to see the map for GameStop's locations, i had to temporarily employ Google Chrome - - which i really dislike so, hopefully, Sym. will get this under control as this is the sort of thing that will quickly destroy credibility especially when my renewal is due in sixteen [16] days.  Not to divert, but, i thought Norton would have heeded their customers' abhorrence to these alerts, guess not.

Hoping that this post finds you well,

H.B.
