False Positive.

I cannot install the fixpack update for my html editor, HotHTML 3 Professional.

http://hothtml3.wsoftware.biz/overview.aspx

Norton doesn’t like hothtml3eval.exe

During the install process Norton keeps removing (Suspicious.MH690.A) wsDialogInstaller.exe from:

C:\DOCUM~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\RarSFXO\program files\WebSoftware\HotHTML 3 Professional\Tools\wsDialogInstaller.exe

So I shut that process down but Norton can’t restore what it removed because the install process removes that temp file when it is finished so that path no longer exists.

If I do the install process again, and while that temporary folder exists, I go into Norton’s controls and select to restore that quarantined item, it still does no good because Norton immediately re-detects what it restored and removes it again.

detect/remove/restore/remove, detect/remove/restore/remove, detect/remove/restore/remove.

LOL!

Why give the user an option to restore something when Norton just goes through this viscious circle over and over which really does nothing but to make the restore function completely useless? Seems rather sadistic to me.

If you wonder how HotHTML 3 already exists on my comp it is because it pre-existed the install of Norton but shortly after that Norton removed the install package hothtml3eval.exe (didn’t need that once HotHTML 3 was installed anyway, until now of course)

I knew up front that HotHTML doesn’t contain any evilware so I talked to the author of the HotHML series when this first happened and this is a false positive.

I also submitted this to Symantec a loooong time ago but yet it is still not resolved.

Also, I do not see any function in Norton that let’s me ignore this thing.

So, what to do about this?
