Falsely promised free renewal?

Overall, Norton usually does a pretty good job protecting my computer.  But, when it fails, it REALLY fails.  I've been a loyal customer for years now, but I've suffered a lot of computer damage, including two ruined towers-along with everything in them,-due to Norton's failure to stop, remove, or even alert me to a virus.  This year, the program spent a lot of time giving me error messages.  The fixes on this never worked, and neither did reinstalling.  Then, I got hit by the security virus, which Norton failed to pick up on, could not remove, and caused a lot of damage.  I had to buy another, non-Norton program to remove it.  As my subscription period nears it's end, I feel frusterated-like I didn't get my money's worth.  I've no money left to renew my product, since I spent everything fixing my computer and buying that repair program, all because Norton failed.  When I told this to a representative in the live help, I was promised a free renewal.  He seemed to just be trying to steal my credit card info, though, and when he realized I wouldn't give it to him, he left the chat without a word.  I'm pretty upset and angry, and I want the renewal that I was promised.
