I would like to suggest a couple of improvements to the desktop password generator.
I have tested the built-in password managers in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave, and Slimjet, and they all behave in essentially the same way.
1. Don’t open the password generator in a new window
When I click Generate Password, the browser opens a large new window or page. This effectively takes me away from the website I was using, whether I want it to or not.
Instead, I would much prefer a small pop-up or floating dialog that appears over the current page. This would let me generate and copy a password without interrupting what I’m doing. The mobile app already provides a much less intrusive experience, and it would be great if the desktop version worked similarly.
2. Remember the user’s preferred password length
Another issue is that the desktop password generator never remembers the password length I selected previously. Every time I generate a password, I have to change it again.
Personally, I prefer passwords that are 13–14 characters long. For my own use, I don’t feel that 20-character passwords are necessary, yet I have to reset the length every single time.
It would be very helpful to have a “Lock Password Length” option (or simply remember the last-used setting). Once enabled, the generator would continue using my preferred length until I chose to change it.
These are relatively small usability improvements, but they would make the desktop password generator much more convenient for people who use it regularly.
