So every time someone sends me a development patch, or I download applications (even from certified souces) Freaking Norton quarauntines the EXEs and DLLs and claims they are virus's as the dreaded "ws.reputation.1"
Most of us know that Ws.Reputation.1 is in fact NOT a virus and NOT malware. It's purely code that Norton has not seen before.
To have Norton constantly shove these files in Quarantine and then take 15 to 20 seconds to respond when you want to access this file is a royal pain in the butt.
Short of turning off download intelligence, I can find no way of bypassing this incredibly annoying feature.
Come on Norton stop treating your install base like 2yr olds. We know the Internet is a scary place, because you tell us it is (lol).
If I'm developing, the only way I can get my freaking job done is to disable your product, because everytime I compile something, your stupid software calls it a Virus. REALLY?
Stop being lazy as a company and develop better heuristics, as far as WS.Reputation.1 goes, give us the option to turn detection off!!
In 10 yrs of using your AV, it has never flagged properly on WS.Reputation.1 it's a stupid and annoying implementation.
If you can't really tell if a file is a virus then until it's reported in the wild as being one, it's CLEAN.
I should have to get collegues to send me encrypted zips or double compressed files just because NORTON (Symantec) can't do thier job properly.
Thanks.
(Ps. I worked for many years in the AV industry for you and your main competitor, so I do know what I am talking about).
