Firefox 6

LinYu2,

You refer to Mozilla and yesterday .... one of the things they did yesterday, according to a user post here, was to confirm that the FF6 on their site for download was NOT the RTM and was still undergoing testing and modification.

Very sensibly Norton have a policy of not releasing until they have received what is definitely RTM and have passed it through all their testing procedure.

This is what they did last time and they released the update on the same day that Mozilla released the RTM.

My understanding is that Mozilla said they would release FF6 on August 16th and here in the USA it is still August 16th and Norton have released the update and announced it at  .... 08-16-2011 04:19 PM

So speaking as a user of Norton for many years and not wearing any official hats I'd just like to say -- Please stop wasting bandwith and making yourself look petty .....

I wish to express my appreciation for the quick effective response by Norton.

An analogy would be a tsunami warning after a not-too-distant offshore earthquake.

The trouble is--the waves are coming,  Mozilla is continuing its rapid-release schedule.  It is also trying to morph Firefox into a web application.  At some point, the Firefox browser and its security concerns will clash with Norton security and its browsing concerns.  The recent past hiccups are but growing pains.

I don't know if these concerns are discussed behind-the-scenes.  Certainly not publicly.

Thanks, Hugh.  I apologize for being so harsh on your delicate skin. Of course, it’s always a pleasure getting your thoughtful responses.

But for the record, just what part of my message to SendOfJive made you feel so anointed as to sputter into an insult mode? I hope it wasn’t my question “where is Hugh”?  Because I thought the idea still remained that the beauty of these forums was one could always ask a question about one issue  --  meanwhile resolved  -- and still survive to have some fun!...  Sorry if it doesn’t apply any longer.

I will not waste any more bandwidth as you did with your response, but I still need to emphasize that I did not mean to be disrespectful, even if you say I looked petty to your eyes. You certainly did NOT look petty to mine.  So keep your stripes, sir.  I will try to keep my money…

So long!

Neigh-ho-ma,

I'll join my voice to yours with a word of appreciation for Symantec’s quick response this time around;  and I also agree with your thoughts, going forward.

I guess I spoke one minute too early and I almost caused a tsunami…  Just hoping the earthquake never actually existed!  We’ll do it one wave at a time…

Cheers!

Lin Yu

LinYu2,

Your use of pale gray --

t seems we are gearing into the same mess all over again... Mozilla spoke on 15 August 2011, at 10:22 AM...  I still didn't hear from Norton...

led me not even to notice your reference to me ... so since I was missed I'm glad I replied ,,...

My irritation comes from:

-- ignoring that FF6 was only released today August 16th, not the 15th "Mozilla spoke" you referred to

-- that according to other users Mozilla denied that what was on their website was RTM evn' tho lableled FF6 but was still being tested and modified

-- that Norton released the fix for FF5 within hours off FF5 being released

-- and that today Norton have again released the fix within hours of FF6 being released.

And yet that was not good enough for you ? OK -- You posted two hours before Norton announced the fix so you did not know they would any more than I did. But I'm prepared to wait and see ...

Sure we can post (within forum guidelines) what we want to say ... and that applies to me too but in this case I took into account past history while you did not ....

Have a look at:

if you want to see what other FF users think .......

i knew you guys would get it togheter!!! great job NORTONS only 3 hours for a fix...now firefox6 works muy excellente.

I totally agree that FF is moving too fast with all these updates, new versions and the like.  I am totally happy and "safe" with FF5 for the moment.  A FF dialog box periodically would pop-up wanting me to upgrade from 5 - 6 Beta and then 6.  And NOW... It is wanting me to upgrade to 7 Beta?  Can they not just make ONE build/upgrade, new version or whatever and do something smart like, "eliminate" headaches?  Or is that asking too much?  Hahahaha

As for me and my household, we will stick with FF 5.  Hahahaha

Apparantly you are running Beta versions of FF and since FF7 just went Beta that is why you are getting those prompts. You need to install the Release version of your choice.I don't Update my FF, I download the new version and install in its own directory and if it all works OK then I uninstall the old version leaving the profile in place.
