I have tried all of the suggestions short of deleting and reinstalling this time and it still doesn't work. HOW can I get my toolbar back? There is "NO" ENABLE button in Firefox addons. Is there some way of knowing if Norton has actually installed the update? I read somewhere that there is a file that changes, but with the Firefox 7 update the file didn't change but the toolbar was working.
I have Windows 7 Pro (Up to date), FireFox 8.0 (Up to date). Add-on Manager reports the following installed extensions: Norton Toolbar 2011.7.3.6, which is disabled Symantec IPS 3.2 which is also disabled. I’ve run LiveUpdate until the you have the latest updates notice and re-booted at least 10 times. Still, no toolbar. I believe that the newest toolbar isn’t being downloaded to my computer (by the release shown above). Time to uninstall/reinstall Norton, until FireFox comes up with 9.0 (probably next week)?

Firefox addons- Symantec IPS 3.2 This is enabled and has the Disable button available. Norton Toolbar 2011.7.2.3 (Disabled) There is no Enable or disable button. It is at the end of the list and grayed out. I tried your link but it only comes up with "An Unexpected Error has occurred." I have run Live update until blue in the face, rebooted a gazillion times. Live update says I have all required updates. Now What? I really do not want to have to uninstall Norton and reinstall it again. This is becoming quite old and bothersome. One other note , I checked Internet Explorer and the toolbar is working there, the version is 2011.6.0.16. FYI

Norton Toolbar version should be 2011.7.3.6 But you have 2011.7.2.3, It means FFv8 patch not applied into your system, You got only FFV7 patch which is released previously, so there may be a intermediate network glitch, In order to get that restart your system and run Live update to get that version and restart . Once you get that version, you will have "enable" button in Firefox addons.

IE toolbar will work fine since we released patch for FFV8 alone to have toolbar support for firefox.
Thanks,
Senthil
Hi JackDwyer,
You have latest version of Norton toolbar,Symantec IPS.
In FFv8, by default Addons will be disabled. To enable these addons, In FF go to Tools->Addons-> There you will have option to "enable" the Norton Toolbar and Symantec IPS. Click on 'Enable' button and restart the browser to get Norton Toolbar.
Let us know your result.
Thanks,
Senthil.
Hi JackDwyer,
I read one of you post with same problem, hope your problem is solved now
Thanks,
Senthil
I have run live update, I have tried everything you suggested. The file that contains the toolbar, "coFFPlgn.dll" is version 2011.7.2.3. Where can I download the latest version of this file, since Norton Live update doesn't seem to thing it needs updating or for some reason it isn't working? The link you provided and the procedure therein is of no use because it doesn't work for me. Can you suggest something else? I would like to get my logins back. So just tell me where to get the file. Thanx
notusedupyet,
I checked an older post, and noticed that you were running Norton 360 v5.0. Is that still the case? If so, I recommend visiting the Norton Update Center to get the latest version. Once you've updated, try running LiveUpdate again. Something else I didn't see in these posts is a mention of a Reboot, which recommend that you try, then running LiveUpdate again.
I have done the same as everyone else - run Live Update umpteen times, rebooted - all with no appreciable effect. Could someone please post a link to the relevant files so that I can download this/these manually and apply the patch for myself. I imagine this is coFFPlgn.dll 2011.7.3.6.
All in all very poor support if a patch is out there but Live Update does not pick it up.
Hi bruce_manford, I'm sorry you are having compatibility issues with Norton 360 and Firefox 8. Could you check the version of Norton 360 that you're running? If it's lower than v5.1, I recommend that you visit our Norton Update Center to get the latest version. This patch will be installed with N360 v5.1, which might be why you're not seeing the update Plugin versions.
If you are running N360 v5.1, please post the info listed in your Add-Ons manager for Firefox 8. It will be the same information listed in the last screenshot of this post. Additionally, if there are any other factors that you think might be affecting this issue (previously switched security products, disabled/enabled toolbar in previous version, etc.) please let us know. Hopefully we'll be able to fix this for your quickly. Thanks.
hello
can you plzs tell me where you downloded your firefox from?
Thank you.
I am not running Norton 360. I use Norton Internet Security 11. I do not want to upgrade to Norton Internet Security 12.
Where can I get the relevant Firefox 8 support files for a manual installation please?
Hi bruce_manford,
Fair enough; we've released a patch for the 2011 version as well. Which exact version of Norton Internet Security 2011 are you running? You'll need to run LiveUpdate to receive all the updates o get you to NIS 18.6. Once you're there, you'll get the patch. It might take a few bouts of "Run LiveUpdate, Reboot" to get you there.
Sorry that does not work. I am already at version 18.6.0.29 and have run Live Update countless times as well as rebooting umpteen times.
Could you please give me a link to download the patch and apply it manually.
Hi bruce_manford, I'm looking into it right now. In the meantime, can you go into ‘Tools’->’Add-ons’ on FF8 and select the ‘Extensions’ tab? Could you capture a screenshot of the Norton Extensions listed there? They should look like the screenshots posted at the bottom of this post. If so, you already have the patch installed. If the version numbers are not the same, then you still need the patch.
I apologize if it seems like I'm making you jump through hoops, but I want to be sure you've gone through the process. Firefox 8 is disabling all the add-on when updated, and it's somethign we're trying to communicate to everyone. Thanks for understanding.
Hi bruce_manford,
We don't offer the patch as a downloadable patch; it needs to be applied via LiveUpdate.
At this point, with the information we have, there are a few scenarios:
1) you have the patch installed, and need to Enabled the add-ons in FF8. This is what I mention in my previous post, and just requires accessing the Extensions area of FF8.
2) you have the patch installed, but FF8 still does not recognize it as an compatible add-on. Once you check the version of the add-ons in the Extension area, we can determine if the patch is installed. In this situation, I'd recommend uninstalling and reinstalling NIS. You can download NIS 2012 or NIS 2011. Be sure to export your Identity Safe info before uninstalling. After installation, run LiveUpdate manually to get the patch.
3) the patches aren't downloading. In this situation, I'd recommend doing the same thing as #2.
I'm sure there are a few more possible situations, but these seem like the most likely, and the resolutions should get you up-to-date quickly. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks.
Solutions 1and 2 did not apply in my case. Solution number 3 eventually worked for me (after umpteen updates and reboots) - not a good advert for the product that LiveUpdate does not work properly without a complete uninstall and reinstallation. What other, more important, updates are not functioning without me being aware of this? This is a serious product flaw.
At least this particular problem is now resolved. Thank you for your help with it.
Tony, I am running the latest Norton 360, I have rebooted, shut off, live updated until I'm blue in the face. I am going to remove Norton and start over. Why can't you just give me the file and I'll install it myself. sheeesh. Thanx.
