Does it happen when you run a quick scan with NAV?

I noticed towards the end of the Quick Scan, this does happen, as far as it looks at the moment; will keep an eye on this to see if it happens without Running a Quick Scan.

If you download and install Anvir Task Manager you will get a well detailed explanation of every process running on your pc. I have rundll32.exe on both my pc. Why? Cause its you Nvidia tray icon. Its part of the Nvidia drivers. I have never received that message myself but I have the latest Nvidia drivers. When is the last time you updated your drivers? Also shut down the Nvidia driver service to manual.

Hi,

Rundll32 is just a stub to load other DLLs to do work.  You'll have to see which DLLs it's loading if you are curious to see what's going on.  A good tool for that is Process Explorer from SysInternals (now Microsoft).

Thanks,

So, is this normal activity, i.e. for it to run near the end of a Quick Scan, in a F.S.S., although, I have not checked this?

here is what I discovered a few weeks back

If I manually do a quick scan t

here will be 4 (use to just be 2)  "instances of rundll32.exe preparing to access the internet" all at about the same time, including fractions of a second

If the scan finds something (in my case always cookies) then there will be an

" instance of navw32.exe preparing to access the internet"

If cookies are found, say 6 then there will be twice the number of cookies found showing

instance of rundll32.exe preparing to access the internet

I'm wondering if there have been more dll added to the scan/removal process?

I use NAV2008 on Vista Home Premium Service package 1

Now it has been explained to me that not always does

"instance of xxxx is preparingto access the internet "

mean it is accessing the internet. But the number of dll showing probably indicate dlls, if that makes sense

"...C:\\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe" is preparing to access the Internet - this happens every split-second for about five minutes.  Any ideas?  This has been happening for about three days now.

Hi,

Yes this is normal to happen right after scans, so there is no worry.

Thanks,

/Chester

This thread may be of some help - see the posts by LNguyen.

Regards,

Mike

what about the 4 that show BEFORE the scan? This really doesn’t worry me now as it did before. But I am curious why the number keeps increasing and I never saw that before. Could it be as I wonder an increase in dlls added to the scanning/removal process?

Why does this happen at the end of a Scan?

I would be greatful if you could provide more detail on this Feautre.

The thread that MikeO referenced above does an excellent job describing the behavior.

Thanks,

Just checking the Web Link out now that mad MikeO - from the video I've seen of him - provided.

Cheers, MikeO!

I’m not very knowledgable about all this, but I’m not sure it addresses why the number of instances has jumped from 1 to 2 and now 4 when initiate the scan

Not trying to be a pain. You all have been very helpful. Just trying to understand
