A month ago I got a new $1,000 computer directly from HP. On it I have watched the number of ‘support’ programs phoning ‘home,’ or wherever, steadily increase to 16, thus far, according to Norton Program Control, I believe. I have no knowledge of what these 16 programs actually do, how they benefit me, who they contact or what information they send.
Either with Norton or otherwise, what is the most efficient way, if any, to monitor these 16 programs’ internet activities?
Ideally, I would like to learn in a practical way what these 16 programs are communicating and to whom. I have no reason to believe anything bad is happening, but given all the news about privacy issues lately, I would like some (independent) clarity.
