You would be somewhat Protected, yes, but I would not Recommend it.
The firewall also looks at programs trying to get to the internet from your system. Does NAV do that or just prottect for something trying to get in?

Firewall Block Un-used Ports as well as controlling how Programs connect to the Internet and also Blocks Ports from known Bad Ports that Hackers use, so this this why it is not recommended because you will be at High-Risk of something slipping through.
Norton AntiVirus 2008 and Earlier have Firewall
Oh yes. I have no intentions of being without a firewall. I was just worried about things getting through and was informed that Norton Intrusion prevention would take care and protec should something get through. I will always use a firewall
NAV 2008 had an inbound firewall NAV2009 has none.
But my theory was that the intrusion protection is a good line of defense, so coupled with a firewall, and Norton can cream the bad guys
Are you behind a hardware firewall? Thats your best and first line of defense. Upgrade to NIS 2009 for free.

NY has N.AV. 2008; I have helped NY with a lot of Issues so am familiar with the Product he uses.

NY: I am sure you already know this, but you cannot Upgrade for free from Norton AntiVirus to Norton Internet Security.

If you buy Norton AntiVirus 2009, you must use Windows' Firewall; I would highly recommend N.I.S. 2009 as that has the excellent symantec Firewall.
Be aware that there are still a few bugs being discovered if you do Upgrade.
Red I’m planning on going up to NIS 2009. You say NAV2009 has still bugs, what about NIS 2009? Does it have bugs too?
No bugs for me in NIS 2009. Works awesome. Light as a feather and Mamutu compliments it well.
Thats cool Dieselman, But If i go NIS2009, I’ll use that as my realtime protection

Yes, N.I.S. 2009 has bugs also.

N.I.S. 2009 has all those Features.
Sorry Red but NIS cannot do what Mamutu does or even Threatfire. Test it yourself. Download System Shutdown Simulator and you will see NIS fails the HIPS test. I posted 2 good articles to read but here they are again. NIS isnt that great in behavior blocking. There are othetr tests it fails but Mamutu grabs them.

That might be the case, but symantec Updates their S.O.N.A.R. at least once-a-month.
Well that might be the case but for now NIS has very poor keylogger and behavior defenses so backing with either Threatfire or Mamutu is a smart choice. Do some testing yourself and you will see. NIS is a great av and firewall but needs work on behavior blocking. Somebody already suggested in the Suggestion thread especially since Symantec bought out PC Tools.
