Firewall Blocking Program

Firewall is preventing a trading platform from opening unless I disable the firewall.  I receive live price feed from them and send orders to them.   How do I add their program to an allowable list.

(I'm newbie and initially posted this to feedback forum in error - sorry for duplication)

Thank you

Unfortunately that didn't work.  Looks like I have Norton Internet Security instead of Norton 360.  That may be why.

Hi ddfarag,

Are you sure it is the firewall blocking the program?  Is the program listed in Norton's Program Control (found in Network Settings > Smart Firewall)?  Please provide more information about how the problem started and what sorts of alerts or notifications you are getting about the lack of connectivity.

Hi,

you can add a custom firewall rule this way:

1. Open Norton Internet Security.

2. In the Internet pane, click Settings.

3. Under Smart Firewall, click Configure next to Advanced Settings.

4. Under Advanced Settings, click Configure next to Program Rules.

5. Find your application on the list, or if it's not listed click Add.

6. Browsre the program and click OK

7. Select Manually configure Internet accecc, click OK

8. In the Add Rule wizard, select the action that the rule should take, and then click Next.

9. Select the type of connection that the rule should monitor, and then click Next.

10. Select the computers that the rule should monitor, and then click Next.

11. Select the protocols that the rule should monitor.

12. Select the ports that the rule should monitor, and then click Next.

13. If you want the logs for this rule to be saved, check Create an event log entry, and then click Next.

14. In the "What do you want to call this rule?" box, type a name for the rule, and then click Next.

15. Review the new rule settings, and if they are correct, click Finish.

16. Click Move Up to move the rule to top, and make it a higher priority
17. Click OK / Apply and close Settings.
Let us know the results.

I also have the same issue but then i resolved it by adjusting my firewall settings

I am trying to follow these instructions but the screen prompts appear to be different than indicated (I'm using NIS 2011).

1. Open Norton Internet Security. OK.

2. In the Internet pane, click Settings. There is no "Internet" pane. "Network Settings" pane?

3. Under Smart Firewall, click Configure next to Advanced Settings.  OK.

4. Under Advanced Settings, click Configure next to Program Rules. There is no "Program Rules."  There is "General Rules." or there is "Automatic Program Control".  At this point I am lost.

...

PapauZ - thank you for taking the time to respond with directions.

Yep... Sorry, I have now the 360 beta on my system, and could not check it.... :P

So the Program Rules setting is here:

Open Settings -> Network Settings -> Smart Firewall -> Program Control

I am having a similar issue.  I am trying to run an application on my smart phone to synchronize with the computer and it keeps telling me that the firewall is blocking access.  I have set the program to "Allow", but it is still blocked.  If I turn off the Norton Internet Security Firewall, the application works fine.  So, the issue seems to be with Norton.  Any other suggestions?  Thanks!

Can you see the cellphone in the network map?  If so, set it to full trust.  This will instruct the firewall to allow it.  If it is no visible in the network map, try going to settings>network settings>advanced and turn off automatic.  Turn on Advanced events monitoring.  This should force Norton to ask you what to do with it when you try to synch.  Once you allow it, it will be allowed when you turn auto back on.
